“chocolate carnival glass”
Loux Road, Westmoreland, Kansas.
It's been a week since Hurricane Melissa struck and on top of thousands of people not having shelter, some aquifers are full and the groundwater levels have risen so much there is even more flooding (groundwater mounding). This is the water level in parts of Manchester parish:
I've never prayed this hard against rain in my life but we (including DR, Haiti & Cuba) can't take any more. Wish we could unsubscribe from hurricane/rainy season because we're in serious trouble if rain continues. It's raining as I type 😭
Mi seriously ah bawl enuh. Finally broke down a couple days ago and now mi bawl every minute. Every new body they recover (34 dead so far), every new picture, every harrowing story of survival, even the people coming together to distribute aid & relief like in Darliston, Westmoreland:
Every raas ting good or bad have me in tears.
The eastern sections have gone back to work to keep the economy going but the survivor's guilt is strong and a lot of us are not okay mentally as we still haven't gotten through to all our family. Or we have but they've lost everything with how badly the western sections were affected. Many places are unrecognisable.
Plans for national volunteer days were announced but it will take time as many communities are still completely cut off. Please keep us in your thoughts, keep sharing the relief drives as you see them and if you are able, please donate.
In addition to the Support Jamaica government site I'd like to add Food For The Poor Jamaica. They're a really good charity and our beloved Sean Paul is working with them matching donations up to US 50k. The Jamaican Embassy in Washington DC is also organising with drop off points depending on your state if you live in the US.
Thanks again to everyone checking in and sharing on our behalf.

Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa has practically decimated the south western parishes of Jamaica. Melissa is the strongest Category 5 to ever hit the region and the strongest to have ever hit Jamaica. Jamaica, over the past decade, has reversed her fortunes. The economy was improving crime was down nearly 50%, inflation was low, and unemployment was low. This is devastating; we will basically have to start all over again. All the support is appreciated, and we give thanks for the Cat Bond that will help in the recovery of our beautiful island.
