JJBI January - Day 3: "Silent and Stoic"

Yesterday, I watched Wicked and this particular quote (black text) made me think of Jotaro - we combined it with inspiration from this really cool Jotaro art by @jamisonrivv to make this piece

Holy was a kind and peaceful woman, but that didn't mean she was harmless.

That is Hermit Purple in the piece - because Joseph caused just as much harm as Holy (if not more)

If you've been following our Jotaro headcanons (part 4 especially), this piece probably won't be all that surprising to you

Our interpretation/version of Jotaro - JJBI Jotaro - is very much a product of his isolated upbringing, for better and for worse ... unfortunately the worse tends to outweigh the better

Jotaro was born in the Year of the Dog, his favorite movie is Never Cry Wolf, he was very fond of Iggy, and he's always wanted a dog as a pet...

...So, how did he end up choosing to adopt a cat?

The answer is simple: he didn't - Scooter adopted him!

Scooter is just a normal Earth cat, not having a Stand (or any unusual abilities). What he lacks in power, he makes up for in tenacity and loyalty: Scooter adores Jotaro and always wants to be with his human - and has even adapted to riding on Jotaro's shoulders so they can stay together more often.

Jotaro doesn't understand why this stray cat chose to follow him, let alone love him, but maybe Scooter sees something in Jotaro that he can't...

sharing my unfiltered JJBA hot-takes to celebrate freedom of speech: Day 1

I do not like Kakyoin and cannot stand his character. In my opinion, he is the only crusader more overrated and overhyped than Jotaro (whose only saving grace is that Araki gave him more story substance later).

Unfortunately, the main reason I don't like Kakyoin is the same reason many people do -- his backstory.

Kakyoin's backstory is all about how he lacked friends before meeting the Crusaders. It's introduced by Araki in Kakyoin's final episode so that audience sympathy is at an all time high when DIO goes for the kill. The problem is, Kakyoin's backstory is only sympathetic if his lack of friends...wasn't his own fault. The thing is, Kakyoin wasn't friendless because everyone else rejected him. In Kakyoin's backstory, it is said that he refused to be friends with his classmates despite none of them disliking him. Kakyoin's reason? He had a Stand and they didn't. In his words: "It's impossible for those who can't see Hierophant Green to understand me." Major differences can make it hard for people to understand each other and become friends, so I can understand that part of his isolation. However, if one never tries to make friends - if one never puts themself out there for others to find and connect to - the only person who can be blamed for their lack of friends is themself. To add to this, Araki has stated in an interview that Kakyoin and Jotaro probably wouldn't have become friends without their power (Stands). What that communicates to me is this: Kakyoin believed that only other Stand users were capable of being his friends. This explains why Kakyoin was easily drawn to DIO - why he jumped at the chance to join Jotaro and an entire group of other Stand users. He had finally found people who matched his criteria for friendship, and he was willing to throw himself into life-threatening danger just to keep up with them. I've heard others compare Kakyoin's story to finally finding friends who have similar interests or life experiences -- but to me, it just reads as: "superhero is only willing to associate with other superheroes, thinks powerless civilians are beneath him." (Or, a la Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak - "guy blames his lack of friends on superpowers to avoid facing that his own shortcomings are the issue.") Kakyoin never does anything (in canon) to disprove that he grew out of this perspective on friendship either, not even during his final episode flashbacks. He says "(The Crusaders) made me realize what true friends are like," but the entire crusader group has Stands. All of them can see Hierophant Green. They did nothing to disprove his belief that only those who saw his Stand could be his friends -- if anything, they affirmed it. So...what if Kakyoin and Jotaro had met under non-bizarre circumstances: Kakyoin with no fleshbud and Jotaro with no Stand? Would Kakyoin have still been open to being friends with Jotaro - or would he have rejected Jotaro as he did all of his other Stand-less peers?

With all that being said, I feel its worth mentioning that I see Kakyoin getting flanderized the most out of all the crusaders as well -

People love to woobify him, derogatorily feminize him and only him (and specifically to make him "the girl" in his relationships with the other male crusaders), or make him a milf-hunter because of a single line he says that doesn't even read that way.

While I dislike Kakyoin, I dislike how people butcher his character even more.
