So I wanna talk about one of my favorite things

So here in Memphis we have this volunteer operated radio station. Its not exactly public access, but it's very close. There's an approval process but they basically let each host come in and play whatever. While the station itself is one of my favorite things, that's not what this post is about. What I wanted to talk about is the brave, honorable soul who snatched up the "white people leaving church" time slot of noon to two pm on Sunday. He plays metal. Just 2 hours of extreme metal. It's the funniest shit because the schedule for Sunday morning is full of country and hymns so I know bible thumpers all over the episode are tuning in, only to get blindsided when they get back in their cars. But yeah that's one of my favorite things

Miss Froggie - Original

I was listening to Rock House, a show devoted to rockabilly, on WEVL while grilling hamburgers tonight & I heard this fun tune by Warren Smith & thought I’d track it down on YouTube Music & share it. For those not familiar with WEVL, they are a listener funded, volunteer radio station in Memphis but you don’t have to be here to listen because they stream live on the Internet. They are seriously one of The City’s overlooked gems. They have definitely introduced me to music genres & artists that I wasn’t familiar with. For instance, Hawaiian slack string guitar. I didn’t know that was a thing that existed, let alone that I enjoyed listening to it and this station has a whole Thursday evening show devoted to it. As for Warren Smith, Fallout fans will know him from his song, Uranium Rock.

The Passing Of Ozzy Osbourne

I was an Ozzy fan since I was a teenager in the Eighties. It was nice to hear a proper tribute to him this past Sunday on The First Church Of Rock on WEVL here in Memphis. I don't know how long it will be up but if you go to https://wevl.org then Programs then Archives, you should be able to find the August 3rd recording of First Church Of Rock which is the Ozzy tribute.
