Don’t miss out! Animator Chris Landreth will be showing a collection of films at the Wexner Center for the Arts on Thursday, January 18th at 7:00pm!

“Chris Landreth is one of the most influential independent animators working today. Based in Canada, the artist and filmmaker is perhaps most associated with the concept of “psychorealism,” his practice of visualizing a character’s internal trauma through digitally rendered deformities and lacerations. This evening’s program of shorts includes his visually stunning, Oscar-winning Ryan (2004).”

Submissions are still open for the annual Ohio Shorts competition at the Wexner Center for the Arts!

Ohio Shorts showcases the best in Ohio-produced short films -- from documentary, animation, or dramatic narrative to anything in-between.

The deadline for entry is Monday, March 2. The screening will be held on Saturday, April 18. Each accepted short receives a $50 screening fee and complementary ticket. A Jury Award ($500) and Audience Choice Award ($300) will be announced after the screening.

Heads up: Thursday, November 14th at 7:00pm, The Wexner Center for the Arts is screening Sonder, one of the first animated short films to employ real-time rendering with the Unity game engine. A discussion with Director Neth Nom (Toy Story 3, Brave, and Monsters University) and Tech Supervisor Andrea Goh (Coco, Cars 3, and Incredibles 2) moderated by Ohio State Department of Design Assistant Professor Kyoung Lee Swearingen, who also worked on the film, follows the screening. Check out this neat event happening next week at the Wex!

Oscar-winning animator and animation historian John Canemaker returns for the world premiere of Hands, a beautifully hand-drawn adaptation of a story from Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio (1919).

Following the screening, Canemaker will discuss and demonstrate his process of animating the film. A display of original artwork used in the making of Hands will be on display in the lower lobby October 21–November 10.

Tickets are $5 for students, and $9 for general public.

Oscar-winning animator and prolific animation historian John Canemaker will be visiting the Wexner Center for the Arts on Thursday, October 18th at 7:00pm to present “Animation Action Analysis” – a close read of Vladimir Tytla and Milt Kahl’s character animation in PINOCCHIO.  His talk will be followed by a recent restoration of PINOCCHIO.
