France's Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship Qualifier
Back from France's Vanguard Qualifier !
I'll do a little report because it was a GREAT week-end, and plus I made a pretty good score : 3 victories - 2 losses. Basically, I ended up around Top 32, among 161 players.
For this Qualifier, I hesitated between two Decks : Sanctuary of Light, and Revenger. I wanted to use SoL, but I noticed the Deck is actually pretty weak. I didn't plan to win the Qualifier, but I wanted to reach at least the Round 3. So I needed a good Deck, and more important, a Deck I liked.
That's why I thought about my Shadow Paladin as a second choice : it's more stable, more powerful, and the card advantage doesn't rely only on a Ride Chain. It has better options and can do more things than SoL.
With SoL, IF you get the complete chain, you do a +0 (Ride G2 on G1 from your hand => Superior Call). But you cant really do more than that. All the Quality Advantage is restricted to Planetal Dragon / Ride Chain. It's fun to play, but it lacks of advantage.
There's not really BIG defaults in Revenger. So I chose a Mordred / Desperate Dragon / Dragruler. Honestly, Touya (Vanguardus) gave me the idea about Desperate. At first I wanted to play Dragruler / anything else, but it happened I quickly grabbed 2 Desperate Dragon right after BT15 sneak peak.
- Round 1 : vs Minerva. (Victory)
=> Well. At least I wasn't afraid to lose my Judgebau against this Deck. I was a pretty quick round, maybe around 10 minutes only. I got a Critical trigger in early game, which helped a lot. My opponent let my attack Mordred boosted by Judgebau, so I could do one of my favourite combo : Superior Call 2 "Black-winged Swordbreaker" => here it comes, +3 for only 1 Counterblast !
When my opponent reached 4 Damages, he directly used Minerva's LB. Good thing was, he only had 2 columns, not that much of attackers/boosters. Despite the Critical, I didn't get to many damages. I topdecked another Mordred Phantom (yeah I admit it, it was luck there), so I BR-ed. I did more attacks than him, got a Break Ride and good power-up, and also a double Draw Trigger during Break Ride turn. The thing is, I only got 3 triggers, but I checked them at the perfect timing.
- Round 2 : vs Narukami Eradicator (Victory)
=> Worst match-up. EVER. And yet... well, it was a pretty scary one, because even if Revenger is good at Quality Advantage, Decks like Eradicators or Kagero are very powerful against Shadow. But one more time, I admit it, I got luck because my opponent didn't get many triggers. I did the same thing than previous Round, except I dont really remember if I also Called "double Swordbreaker"... there's always a Round we dont remember clearly. I was pretty scared of Descendant, of course, but I managed to hold it : my opponent used ALL the CounterBlasts on only one turn. 4 for +5000*2, one for Self-Stand. I resisted, he couldn't resist after that.
- Round 3 : vs Reit/Meer. (Loss)
=> Reit/Meer is a DAMN POWERFUL DECK. And it's even more when it's played by my friend. Yeah yeah, I managed to end up fighting against a friend of my city among 100 players ! It was Card Advantage vs Card Advantage. For quite some time, he didn't get a lot of G2 to attack, while I was pretty at ease there, thanks to Mana. But he Rode Meer. At this right moment, I knew I had to be careful : when was the good moment to let him get the Break Ride ? So I just gave him. He Rode Reit on Meer. But, lucky ! he healed during the TwinDrive, so I didnt have to face the terrible combo of 6 boosted attacks.
But during this time, he gathered tons of cards with "Peace". So I couldn't really scare him, even with Desperate Dragon. I finally lost because of difference of Card Advantage. But he was reall a good opponent.
- Round 4 : vs Kagero Nouvelle Vague. (Victory)
=> Oh joy... Nouvelle Vague. Well, honestly, yet-another-luck for me : my opponent didn't get any G1 to get his attacks boosted. I healed twice during early game, he healed twice during mid/end-game. Pretty balanced. But he had Dauntless ad a Vanguard... So during a turn, he decided to not guard my Vanguard attack : I got a Critical. I decided to add ALL the effects on another columns - 16k one : like this, he had a choice : guard with 15k (knowing that he didn't have that much of shield) or let the attack pass and reach 5 damages. But then he Break Rode Nouvelle Vague, did the Limit Break and destroyed ALL MY FIELD. But I wasn't scared : I had 2 Perfect Guard... and a lot of cards in hand. On his side, he had no boost, only G3 attackers. On my side, I had Desperate Dragon to add some pression with the Extra-Critical : he didn't have shield anymore to defend ALL my attacks.
- Round 5 : vs Kagero Dragonic Overlord. (Loss)
=> Man seriously 3 bad match-up... Well, pretty quick one : I got Gradelock to G2 for 2 turns. When I Rode G2 it was Macha. 8000 Power. huh. I reached 5 Damages pretty quickly with NO DEFENSIVE TRIGGER at all, and when I Rode Desperate Dragon (because Mordred actually showed-up rarely...), Twindrive : G3-G3. Even the Heal on 6th Damage didn't help me.
My goal was to reach Round 3.
I ended up reaching Round 5, meaning I - technically - ended-up in Top 32.
I met tons of people, had a lot of fun, and even grabbed a complete playset of Dragruler, including one in SP ! This week-end was really, really great. And more than anything, the Winner was playing, against all expectations..... Pale Moon !
I think I will show the build I used for this Qualifier later, maybe tonight or tomorrow !
