"Legal Tender" is a song by American new wave band The B-52's from their 1983 album Whammy! The single was their third Billboard Hot 100 entry, at #81. It also peaked at #9 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.

The song is about a basement counterfeiting operation. It uses an upbeat synthesizer-fueled track with a drum machine and hand-clap rhythm. Lead vocals are shared by Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson.

The music video received heavy rotation by MTV in 1983 and was quite popular, featuring Wilson and Pierson’s colored and styled wigs that they favored at the time and lots of bright colors typical of the 1980s.
