May I ask about 'Believe me, I know'? ouo
HECK YEAH, THANKS FOR THE ASK ALKSDMOA <3
AIGHT! This one is just a smol Journey to the west one about Tang Sanzang learning to actually trust his disciples outside of battles and stuff. Though it's basically just me wanting to write a trans Tripitaka fic SKSKMDFAGHWE Not much else to say about it LOL *wheezes*
Just got some Tripitaka kinda hiding that part of himself and slowly relaxing around them as time wears on. He's a little paranoid, but Wukong at least knows but he never actually points it out because he doesn't think it's important, cause hey, him too bro (Trans monkey go BRRRRRR) and it doesn't occur to him that it's something Tripitaka is actually trying to hide ksdmofawe
Anyway, there's one scene where they get Tripitaka back after a long four days in a demons lair, which is not great when you're still wearing your binder/wrappings while also being tied up, and instead of letting them help cause he's clearly breathing wrong, he just gets his disciples to leave the room so he can deal with it himself and figure stuff out. And to Wukong that just means he doesn't actually trust them to help him when he's venerable yet (which is kinda true, but also not) and there's some misunderstanding there, lol
Eventually though the truth comes out, Tripitaka comes out (*wheezing* I think I'm funny-- KFMWE) and Wukong's like: wait, we weren't supposed to know that?
And it's a little funny and also a big weight off of Sanzang's shoulders and I dunno everything's chill elm;fOIWEAF
This one was put on hold because I wanted to do more research into trans history in ancient china so I could be a little more accurate in what I was writing lol
Every morning Tripitaka took care in binding his chest before the group set out.
He awoke before the birds had begun to sing, when the sky only just began to lighten, while his disciples were sound asleep.
Save for Wukong, that is.
The monkey was always awake when Tripitaka opened his eyes, whether it be in the early morning, or in the middle of the night. He would be sitting a short distance away, or at the foot of his bed when they were lucky enough to find a place to stay, unmoving, but very obviously wide awake. It was the only time the monkey was really… still. During the day he seemed to be constantly moving, so it was a little odd to see him so.
The first few morning’s Tripitiaka was hesitant, watching him warily.
Taking off the wrappings was simple, and could be done without bothering to take off his outer layers. Putting them on was another story entirely. He did not want to draw attention to himself however, which he could not continue to do if he asked the monkey to leave...
So instead he sat for a long while, watching Sun Wukong to see what he would do now that he knew he was awake.
When the monkey made no move to turn around, remaining completely still, (so still he almost thought he wasn’t breathing,) he swiftly slipped out of the top of his robes and bound his chest, then simply hoped his disciple would think it was just another piece of the monk garb and nothing more. It wasn’t until Tripitaka had risen from bed did Wukong acknowledge that he was awake and they continued on their way.
Eventually he grew used to binding along with the monkey’s silent presence. He never turned around, or said a word, and Tripitaka took a little more time and care each morning until he would hardly even glance at the monkey at all, knowing he would not turn around.
Wukong seemed to relax a little more as time passed too, going from stone still to small movements. His ears would occasionally twitch, and his tail would flick back and forth in a steady rhythm to the sound of the bindings.
It became almost… reassuring to have him there. Usually he would feel a degree of vulnerability and discomfort when wrapping, paranoid of prying eyes, but after having Wukong rescue him so many times, and knowing his hearing and sight were unmatched; no one could even begin to get close enough to see without him noticing. While he was in more danger than most other mortals could comprehend he was also safer than he had ever been.
When his other disciples joined, Tripitaka had been worried for a time, but after a few mornings they fell into a pattern. Wukong would sit with his back to him, and Tripitaka would bind his chest, then recite his sutra’s, Monkey’s ears flicking back and forth every once in a while. Wujing would wake up sometime in the middle of his second sutra and come sit nearby to listen. Then, after he was finished reciting, Wukong would rise to his feet and then kick Bajie awake, which usually led to a lot of cursing from Bajie and scolding from Tripitaka.
And that was how things went.
