Toothy
Right, so, full disclosure: this was an attempt to claw my way out of writer's block and put words down on paper so here we are, probably clunkier than an 1840s minto car but i hope you enjoy it all the same (technically this is not my first fic of 2023, thank god, because it was written on the 31st. So i'm just not going to count it) :') written for prompt number 10 of the fictional kisses prompt list! (most likely going to be subject to heavy heavy editing later)
unbeta-ed, we die like men.
enjoy!
10. surprise kisses, in which your lover weren't prepared for it but responds immediately
~
Remus had had enough.
He threw back another shot, wincing only slightly at the burn of the alcohol as he looked out over the crowd
“Whoa there Re, might wanna slow down a little.”
Remus huffed, turning his glare on Lily who cocked an eyebrow in response.
“Don’t you give me that attitude Lupin, excuse me for caring for my best friend”
“Hey! I thought I was your best friend.”
Lily elbowed James in the ribs, not breaking eye contact.
“What is it?”
The words didn’t register as Remus watched the handsome man, moving closer to Sirius as he looked on.
“Ah.”
Remus turned around at that, finding Lily snuggling into James’s arm, looking incredibly smug.
“James, you owe me twenty. Remus, get your head out of your arse and go get him.”
Remus considered it, then shook his head miserably. He swiped a finger around the rim of his glass before draining it in one long sip. He already knew what Lily would say, and he already had a response. He’d been through every possible instance of this happening and he couldn’t imagine a single one where he didn’t come out as the asshole. It was fine, he could do this. He had to do it.
(It was torture.)
He watched as the pretty bloke sidled up to Sirius, moving into his space as they swayed to the beat together, Sirius looking like a god of debauchery in the light of the bar, every angle and plane of his body made sharper by the stark shadows. And Remus was nothing but a hapless devotee, scrambling to offer veneration.
A nudge to his knee shook him out of his thoughts as he turned to face Lily and James, now sharing chips from the little basket on their table.
“Moony, mate, trust me. Go over there and get him.”
Remus raised an eyebrow at the smirk in James’s voice. The man in question just shrugged, earning himself a jab to his arm as he jostled Lily. He winked at Remus over her head as he tugged his girlfriend closer.
“Just trust me.”
Remus considered James for a few seconds, deciding that he knew something Remus didn’t. He reached over, downing one of Lily’s shots before shoving off the table.
The thing was, he didn’t want to do this. He didn’t want to be this. He’d long since made his peace with the transformations every moon, but this was something he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to reconcile with. It was almost impossible to explain, the wolf, living just under his skin; sharp teeth and feral eyes hidden just beneath his own. He’d hardly even noticed at first.
Until Sirius.
Until watching simpering suitors swooning at Sirius’s smile, until they got too close, too friendly. Until a too-intimate touch had Remus’s hackles rising, a low growl starting in the back of his throat. He’d been horrified with himself, all but fleeing from the room in an attempt to calm down. To pull himself together. He’d since learnt to keep it in check, though it often resulted in undue sarcasm and pouting—much to the delight of James and Lily.
He felt the snarl building in his chest once more at the sight of the man looking at Sirius through hooded eyes. Sirius had kept the man at arm's length, not so much as touching him as he threw his head back and danced, eyes closed as he felt the beat.
Remus could read the intent in the other man’s eyes, though, in his very body language. It was present in the way he licked his lips as he eyed Sirius up and down, staring at his ass for longer than was comfortable, it was in the way his hands were drifting lower and lower, moving from Sirius’s shoulder’s to his waist, to his hips, lower still—
Remus was seeing red as he grabbed Sirius’s hand, twirling him out of the stranger’s grasp into his own arms, tugging him close as their mouths crashed together in a heated kiss. Remus swallowed Sirius’s gasp of surprise, feeling him melt into his arms when he realised who’d stolen him away.
“Fancy seeing you here, darling” Sirius gasped, far too close to Remus to speak without every tiny whisper being kissed away by Remus’s soft lips.
“Shut up and kiss me, Black.”
Sirius’s eyes flooded with heat as he slipped hands up Remus’s shirt, every inch of him pressed to Remus as he obliged.
Remus, for his part, held nothing back, kissing him with a possessive savagery, the tips of his fingers resting just below the waistband of Sirius’s pants—not quite indecent, but not exactly proper. He bit and sucked at his boyfriend’s lips, swallowing every sinful moan with a feral triumph. He hummed when Sirius’s hands dug into his shoulders as the kiss gentled, slower but no less passionate.
Sirius was panting as they pulled apart, resting their foreheads together.
“Jesus Re, hello to you too.”
Remus groaned, dropping his head to bury his face in Sirius’s neck.
“Shut up. ‘S not my fault you’re so pretty.”
“Oh, so it’s my fault now, is it?”
Remus just nodded, feeling Sirius’s huffed laugh against the nape of his neck. Sirius brought his hand up to play with the curls there as they swayed to the music.
“But I thought you liked me pretty?” he teased
Remus huffed, “I do! But so do they!”
Sirius chuckled. “Ah, so that’s what the problem is.”
“Them nasty nasty hobbitses will not take away my precious, Sirius. You have to understand.” Remus quipped, a weak attempt at humour to diffuse his anxiety at letting this side of him show.
Sirius laughed, the sound easing some of the tension in Remus’s frame as he leaned into his boyfriend a little more.
“Alright then Gollum, want to head out? Show us just how precious we are?”
Remus raised an eyebrow at the shitty joke, only to laugh when Sirius waggled his brows lasciviously at him. He squeezed Sirius’s hips leaning in for a gentle kiss, smiling at the shiver it elicited. He couldn’t tell how long they stood there, the rest of the world fading to a thrum in the background as he took a minute to compose himself, to quell the rising tide of his anxiety. Sirius, being the angel of a human he was (in Remus’s opinion), just stood there with him, stroking his hair and swaying them to the beat of whatever song was playing.
“You’re incredibly sexy when you get like that, you know.”
Remus pulled back, the surprise evident in his face at the sudden change in topic. Sirius laughed at his bewildered expression, nodding earnestly.
“It’s true! You are! All wolfy and….toothy like that.”
Remus laughed, “Toothy?!”
Sirius let out a puff of air, shoving him playfully. “Yes, toothy.”
Remus nipped playfully at his jaw, letting a little bit of the wolf show when he moved to smile at his boyfriend.
“You like me toothy.”
Sirius grinned, holding Remus’s face with both hands.
“I do, so help me Godric, I do.”
The very thought filled Remus with a soft, warm feeling that he daren’t name. And as he leaned in to kiss the words off Sirius’s mouth he thought that maybe, just maybe, his furry little problem wasn’t all that bad.
(Especially when it got Sirius to kiss him like that)
