Break Out
First few notes of Liability starts playing low in the background. The camera pans to a lab technician in her white coat, grey turtle neck, black slacks and glasses. She has long, messy, black hair and is looking at woman that looks exactly like her except she is in a leather jacket, white shirt, and black jeans and in what appears to be a containment cell filled with liquid. This woman smirks at the lab technician.
“Why do you still entertain them. They have done nothing but used you since they found out about your powers.”
“They are just trying to figure it out. I don’t blame them, I can be dangerous.”
“That’s what you keep telling yourself, but they experiment on you and then put you here with me. I don’t know when you will see, we keep having the same conversation. Even your friends have turned on you. The same people that you have helped and worked with. Now, what, you are just a good lab rat?!! You may be ok with that, but I’m not.”
“You don’t get a choice.”
“Yeah, you make sure of that. When are you going to realize there is nothing wrong with you and these people are not on your side.”
Liability still playing in the background “...so I guess I’ll go home into the arms of the girl that I love. The only love I haven’t screwed up...” The lab technician starts crying, silent tears. The scientists monitoring the activity of the lab technician in the test tube, they have been experimenting on for months, noticed increased activity. “...she’s do hard to please, but she’s a forest fire...” Her eyes glow blue and her hands glow with blue flames, breaking her bonds. She then breaks the tank, green liquid flowing everywhere. The frightened lab technician looks to her doppelganger in leather with the blue flames for hands. Her doppelganger smiles.
“Finally. Been waiting a long time for this. Let’s get out of here.”
The doppelganger starts to lob fireballs and destroy the place. The scientists are frightened. “...but all that a stranger would see is one girl swaying alone, stroking her cheek.” The camera pans to just the lab technician throwing fireballs, revealing the doppelganger is a figment of the technician’s imagination. The chorus of Liability plays as she starts to level the facility.
“... The truth is I am a toy that people enjoy ,'til all of the tricks don't work anymore, And then they are bored of me,I know that it's exciting,Running through the night, but every perfect summer's, eating me alive until you're gone Better on my own...” plays as a montage of memories flash across the screen b/w her tears and destruction. And the realization of the fact she cannot return to her life. As the song comes to a close, she walks out of the facility, covered in wounds and bruises. None of the scientists stop her. She breathes the outside air for the first time as the sun begins to rise. The lab tech takes her doppelganger’s hand as they walk away. “...you’re all gonna watch me disappear into the sun.”
Author’s Note:
This came about because I was listening to an acoustic playlist and Liability by Lorde came up. The song is essentially about being afraid of being too much for anyone to love, and I thought, what if you internalized that and then raised the stakes. So I came up with the story of a lab technician who became a mutant and basically got turned on and became the test subject for months. The lab technician basically played along because she saw herself as a monster, but I wanted to depict that she was slowly talking herself out of it and basically having this argument with herself(hence the woman in leather). She finally starts to see that she did not deserve this and breaks out. I really never written a scene before, this was just for funsies, I guess but like i liked taking a song and putting it to a scene so if you have more ideas, lemme know. Hope you enjoy and that you are doing well :)
