Send Me "♣" To Hear My Muse's Final Words As They Die In Your Muse's Arms
"I..I didn't.." Ellie rasped with what voice was available as she shuddered and convulsed, staring up at Tess in a panic. She was beyond saving -- her throat was almost completely torn away by the clicker, and the blood was flowing quick. She'd stupidly thrown herself in front of Joel when it came barreling out of nowhere and the clicker instantly took advantage of the easy prey. They'd fucked up. They'd lost their deal because she saved Joel. Part of her, the part that wasn't full of nothing but I don't want to die, was full of guilt for burdening them like this. "Didn't...see..Sorry...Joel...okay....?"
But she'd never hear the answer; with choking noise her body gave one last shudder, her mouth still hung open, and her eyes glassed over.

Fuck. Fuck.
Ellie's breathing was panicked as she darted through the narrow, too small hallway of the house and into the living room. Runners were quick but clumsy, robbed of their coordination and slowly dying eyesight as the cordyceps continued it's growth. Their much heavier footsteps were easy to make out throughout the house, accompanied by their grunts and delirious shouting after their newfound prey. The girl's panting hitched as she vaulted over the old couch, bouncing off the old cushions to dart into the kitchen and out the back door. She couldn't keep running, but two of them in a close space were no good and she'd end up with one dead and one with it's teeth on her neck. So she kept going.
Joel was nowhere in sight. Both of them had to haul ass when they'd heard the sounds of infected spotting them, and along the way she'd darted into just the wrong door and at the wrong time and it resulted in them going completely separate ways than originally intended. The neighborhood itself was new and foreign to her, guaranteeing no chance of finding the old man unless some sort of navigating miracle bestowed itself onto her. But she wasn't lost. This wasn't lost. She was doing just fine. Ellie darted into the next house over, managing to slam the door shut just as the runners came running and yelling. But, it was immediately made clear that she was definitely not alone.
The door lurched with the palms and arms shoving against her and her sneakers squeaked loudly against the old wooden floor. "Alright pal," She barked, taking one hand off the door to point the gun at the other person, "You have about six seconds before the runners bust down the door to either be a threat or be useful. I'll kill you first before I kill them if you try anything else."

» A weak hand clasped against the hard brick of a small run down shop. He spat at the ground, wiping his hand against his lips, ignoring the red streaks that came from a tear in his lip. He'd gotten the living shit beat out of him by a couple of punks, and now his ration cards stolen, he should throw in the towel. No way he was going to survive through the spring... He'd have to find his way out of the city and freeball it. But still, he kept himself moving, pain searing through his chest, his skin tingling with the forming bruises. He limped his way through the foggy alleyways, curfew just an hour away. Never has things been this bad for him, never has he thought it impossible to survive on his own... But now, living in Boston... He was by himself, Tommy disappeared with the Fireflies a long time ago, and Joel hadn't heard back from him yet. He would get worried, except for the fact that it was his brother, he'd raised him, and he knew Tommy could take care of himself. He turned the corner, finding himself stumbled upon another group of what seemed like the same kind of punks that had jumped him earlier. He froze in his tracks, but still, with as loud and as slow as he was moving at the moment, they would still know he was there. They were huddled around a single person, making some sort of trade from what Joel could tell, he saw ration cards being passed from one person to another, then medical gear. But the instant his footsteps were heard, some of the group took a good look at Joel then ran, leaving the other half cussing a storm after them. Ah shit... Their attention now turned towards him he wondered if he was counting his last moments. He hoped not. «
