Exhausted and burned to a crisp by the sun, Derek swings his front door open. Every muscle ached and every inch of skin hurt. His healing process was usually faster than this, but he’s been caught up in his own hunting. Derek fought tooth and nail, and in some cases, knocked out and beaten to a bloody pulp. The only thing that kept him alive was the thought of going home. Even in his toughest of trials, brown eyes looking up at him told him, ‘keep going Derek. Come back to me’ even if the image was there for just a second, Stiles’s voice in his head was ultimately what kept him fighting, even if he only subconsciously knew it. Once face down on his bed, he drifted right off into a dreamless slumber.
The next day, Derek was still sore, the scratches were nearly non existent, but he still had more healing to get done. He started with a mid afternoon shower, finally scrubbing off the dirt and grim of the few days before, and getting lost amongst the water drops of the shower beating down on him. It was nearly an hour before he was starting to get stir crazy already. The rumble of his stomach reminded him of all the food he missed when he was away. The first thing on his list? Pizza!
Derek drove to the pizza shop that Stiles and Scott introduced him to so long ago, remembering how flavorful their pizzas were. It really was the best place in Beacon Hills. Once ordered and ready to go, Derek sat next to a window and watched all the clueless people walk by or sit in their cars. ‘Such oblivious people, taking advantage of the world that’s bigger than they could ever imagine.’ He thought to himself, the first bite of pizza burned the roof of his mouth, which normally would be the most annoying thing to anyone, but Derek healed right away, and thankfully never had to endure the insanity of the thread of skin that would dangle for a few days. The only thing that made his heart jump a beat was the boy entering the pizza parlor. He watched him momentarily until he turned around. “It’s been a while, Stiles.” He gave a toothy grin and watched the boy go limp where he stood.
