I've been studying the whb lore for a while (as much as I can at least since I joined back when the Your Idol event had just started) and I decided to make a comparison of it with the actual lore in the Bible and theology as a whole.
First off, the angels' rankings.
As we know, Heaven's hierarchy works not as who's strongest, but who is closest to God. This makes it so that St. Michael, who is known to be the strongest angel in all of Heaven, be an archangel and not a seraphim. Mainly because Michael isn't with God all the time, but rather he's on earth helping us and answering/sending our prayers to God. But WHB managed to change this in a way that it still makes sense. The seraphim we know in the Bible are archangels (even Jophiel, Sandalphon, Metatron, and others are archangels), but in the WHB universe they're seraphim because they don't hang out with humans at all. They don't interfere unless it's Solomon specifically. It's not their job to do so, nor would they want to as they've shown great disgust at the thought of them. They've spent a long time beside God, though not as much time as Lucifer. Which would make Lucifer a seraph as well?? (or fucking evil Jesus at this point).
The Lucifer being a cherub, throne, seraph or archangel debate has been going on for a while now, given most people don't actually pay attention to Heaven's hierarchy nor do they pay attention to the fact he was God's favourite angel and the one he kept closest to him. All everyone settled on was that he was a fallen angel, but no one knew what his original rank was. WHB could make him a seraph considering that is the highest rank in the hierarchy, however, here comes the confusing part.
The seraphim have also been called archangels before. So we know now the hierarchy in WHB is God, Seraphim, Archangels, Cherubim, and then what? We don't have much to say what the thrones, dominions, virtues, etc. But this isn't what I want to focus on.
We'd already settled earlier that the seraphim in WHB aren't archangels..are they? From what I remember, in the Your Idol event, the moment the seraphim appeared and Metatron was introduced (or reintroduced) into the story, they described it as "The angel emerging from behind the archangels was none other than Metatron..." (I'd to look into my old recording of the event whoops) and you could argue that perhaps is a mistake in translation, however seraphim in Korean is written as "세라핌" while archangel in Korean is written as "대천사" which, unless you're using Google FUCKslate, would be difficult to get wrong. So, for the sake of this rant, it is not a mistake in translation.
So we know the seraphim are archangels too?? Also no. The seraphim, from what we know, never left God's side unless they'd work to do (and most of the time it wasn't on earth), from what we know Lucifer was the only one who went to Earth before to actually "help" (really it was to figure out Solomon) humans, and we know the pleasure of going down to Earth only was for the seraphim, which seems only Michael used because he was the only one who actually went there sometimes to not be in Heaven (fuck you Lucifer for erasing his memories) but idk where I got this and it probably isn't even canon and I'm confusing myself more by writing this but whatever.
The seraphim pride themselves in being seraphim, they wouldn't take a rank lower than theirs like an archangel (assuming the hierarchy is the same or at least similar to that of the Bible), and it would be insulting to them to be called as anything other than a seraphim.
We also know they don't exactly stick to their archangel counterparts either. Raphael (name meaning God Heals), in the Book of Tobit (which is canon/deuterocanonical in the Roman Catholic church), appears as the archangel of healers and claims to be one of the seven angels who stand before the Lord (their names are debated but from those I've stuck with most are Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Jophiel, Zadkiel, and Samael), as well as teaching Tobiah how to cure his father's blindness. All of this which..Raph doesn't do. Raphael in WHB is the angel of violence, a blood angel per say. Which is the complete opposite of the one in canon writings.
So do all angels in WHB portray opposite traits to the canonical ones? Also no, not really. In the Peshitta Bible translation (one translated from Aramaic) Daniel 10:13 it says, "And the Ruler of the Kingdom of Persia arose against me twenty and one days, and behold, Mikaeil, one of the Princes, first came to help me, and I remained there against the Ruler of Persia." And more modern translation says, "But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia."
In these cases Michael is actively helping someone, which would make sense considering he's, in canon, the archangel of justice and protection (as well as warfare, fate and destiny, the military, faith and wedding ← Fun fact!!) Most of these which WHB Michael represents perfectly. He has an army of his own and he commands them in the war against Hell (Military and Warfare), he settled Belphegor's fate in an attempt to stop Lucifer from killing him (Fate, destiny and protection), he wanted to give his life to save Belphegor given he was innocent and he found it unnecessary for Lucifer to punish an innocent child while going mostly unpunished himself (justice), and he's severely faithful to Lucifer and God (Faith). Saying severely because, in his story, it's...not exactly good.....
And what about Gabriel? Does he follow the canon or does he oppose it? He's kind of like a mid point. In canon, Gabriel is the archangel of Messengers (and a bunch of other titles like Faith, Kindness, Creation, Destruction, Temperance, Revelations, Messages, Water, Motherhood, Butterflies and Chastity. This is all very specific I know but it'll make sense.) Gabriel, in WHB, follows the ones of Faith, Creation and Destruction, Temperance, and Chastity (because no, I will not consider MC assaulting and raping him as taking away his chastity.) Messages and Revelations is a..so-so. He told MC why they were being targetted, he told them about what would happen, same with many others in the story, but they were mostly just him bragging about what he was going to do before doing it. While those two work most as a way of telling humanity what God wants to say and warn us about something, not what he himself wants to do. Therefore he's not exactly doing the job he has in canon, but rather one WHB gave him.
But that's all I wanted to rant abt today I might make another (More conclusive) part of this abt the kings n stuff lol because idrk where I wanted to go with all of this
Spoiler of the next frame I'll be inspiring myself off to make another Michael drawing
And also extra personal drawings I've made since my last Michael drawing (I NEED A STYLUS OMFG I NEED TO GET PAID ALREADY)
That last one is my fav tbh but unrelated (all inspired by Hypno's lullaby frames, all ocs of mine and my pookie Valk ໒꒰ྀི๑ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ๑꒱ྀིა)
OH AND THE BRUSHES I USE BECAUSE FUCK GATEKEEPING
And a Raphael variant of the Michael brush (these two I use for rendering, Giggle Fart I use for lineart)
Obviously Raphael and Michael have different brush shapes, so you get to pick which you prefer (also recommended for you to not turn off separate brush strokes for these two, otherwise the brush won't work for rendering)
And an example of how all three of these brushes work (I don't have any cool art app I refuse to give money to my phone)
I've got a total of one (1) Michael beach card so far and I'm a loyal F2P guy but I am so tempted to give my money to get more of him...
Someone talk me out of it please I don't wanna give my money to PB (unless they use it to hire ACTUAL artists instead of wasting it on paying their little chatGPT subscription) ๐·°(৹˃ᗝ˂৹)°·๐
I wanted to try out doing something digital even doe I don't have a stylus and had to use my ohone because I have to tablet or of the sort but it does have a tid bit of gore ig??? I mean it shows the inside of an eye socket but it's like in grey scale so idk??? I'm gonna cover it either way because it's like dead + mechanicaleyeless Michael
I used one frame of the reboot of Hypno's Lullaby's Monochrome as inspo for it
This one just that Michael is laying on his back and like already dead while Gold is crawling on his stomach (I should've added more blood now that I think about it)
(Idk how to do digital I'm more of a traditional guy srry I could've done it better tbh)
Edit: and the slight grainy texture the og animation has
