So this has been declared to be a false rumor, but I'm thinking that if we get enough people to cry, "By gods! for the fandom, tumblr and St. Loki!" Maybe they will consider making it a reality.

It's Joss Whedon's own special brand of ridiculous. Take, for example, his villains and heros in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Captain Hammer is a ridiculous name, with a ridiculous personality, but it works and everyone loves to hate him.
