This is my entry for The Basement Spouses writing challenge. The challenge this week was to write a piece in 100 words or less about Lee Bodecker using the prompt “Be good for me, baby. We wouldn’t want to see those tears again.”
The pain stopped, evaporated into thin air along with the last scream from your lungs.
The beat of silence soothed you, before the new cry began and wrapped vines around your heart, pumping the guilt through your veins as the new life, tiny and bloody, screeched its arrival between your blood-slick thighs.
The door creaked open loudly, allowing in light and there he stood, watching for a moment before descending the stairs and approaching. He scooped up the babe wrapped in his jacket, smiling darkly.
“Be good for me, baby. We wouldn’t want to see those tears again.”
