Jessye Norman was born in Augusta, Georgia. Her father Silas was an insurance salesman, her mother a schoolteacher. Jessye Norman’s parents placed an enormous importance on education. Although the schools of Georgia were racially segregated in the 1950s, the Normans and their neighbors pressed for high standards in their local schools and expected a high level of academic performance from their children. The presence of the University of Georgia medical school in the community had a powerful influence on the Norman children. One brother became a physician, one sister the director of a nursing program. Jessye too thought she might pursue a career in medicine, until her unmistakable talent led her in a different direction.

A very famous name… the versions we know today all come from greek: helene, Elèné mean “torch, light, shining flame, splendour” and perharps that’s why also Selene means ‘moon’ always in greek.

1:If you were of the opposite gender, what name would you want to have? Probably Andrew or Edward. An Italian name I love is Luca.

2:If you could witness any historical event in person, which one would it be and why? Whoa that’s difficult. Elisabeth of Austria’s wedding ceremony for instance, or the coronation of Eleanor of Aquitaine, MLK’s Lincoln Memorial speech, Philip the Fair bitchslapping the Pope in Anagni (trololol), the liberation day in Italy (25th April 1945) so that I could see my grandad when he was a child and how they actually lived that day when the war ended, or even Hypatia of Alexandria’s lessons (that’s not really an ‘event’ but I’m very interested in the everyday life of many historical eras) - there are so many!

21:What is your favorite font? I have this font that replicates exactly Jane Austen’s handwriting and it’s marvellous. It’s called JaneAusten (duh to me). Kunstler Script is lovely too

24:Who are you? Someone who’s trying to find out meanings.

28: What is your favorite album artwork? Idk the Queen album covers were fantastic - especially Innuendo - but Nevermind by Nirvana is pretty rad too. Probably Power corruption & lies by New Order is my fave tho.

38:What is your favorite piece of clothing? Probably medium-lenght skirts and sweaters because it’s like being hugged.

43: Who is your favorite one-hit wonder of the last twenty years? Omg probably Haiducii I was like 6 years old when dragostea din tei came out and I sometimes found myself singing this silly song by myself ugh

46:What is your least favorite song from your favorite musical? Ok so my fave musical is probably Les Mis (tough decision) and I have to say  all the song are masterpieces, but among them Lovely Ladies is the one I like less.

48:What is your favorite vegetable? SPINACH!!! Omg I love spinach with a little bit of cheese and butter or with asparagus and ham or a nice sunny side up egg - I also love mushrooms I could eat only mushrooms for the rest of my life omg I’m so hungry rn I love food 

49:Who is your favorite fictional villain? SO. MANY. My fave disney villain is definitely Claude Frollo for many reasons and I also adore this character in the Hugo novel. Queen Jadis is my precious villain gurl too.
