Qinyuan Mountain which is translated as the "Pure Water-source Mountain", is the only 5A scenic spot in Quanzhou. The mountain is only 500 meters above sea level and is a perfect spot for a casual hike. With thousands of years of history, a major highlight is Laojun Rock. Located at the foothill, it is a detailed carved sculpture of Laozi. The statue of Laozi is famed as being the largest stone carving of him, it is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level; it measures 8.01m in length, 6.85m in width, and 5.63m in height, occupying an area of 55 square meters. The statue was carved out of a natural rock during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Laozi is sitting in a cross-legged position, with his left hand on his left knee and right hand on a table. The figure has become a symbol of health and longevity. As the saying goes in Quanzhou, "Touch the nose of the Stone Old Saint, and you'll live up to 120 years old," which entices many tourists to have a try.
