Non-awkward question: Seeing how you just got finished with what I'm about to get myself into (congrats again by the way :D), and reading about your silverware incident, I feel a little a slight need to ask... How exactly is it having room mate? Odds are for my housing I'm staying in a shared room and Im just wondering what I'm going to be dealing with? Also, miss you and you're family a poop ton!!
Having a roommate is an interesting experience. For my first year it kinda sucked, because my roommate was a slob and my suitemates were kinda douchey (see fork incident). BUT THE GOOD NEWS is that it’s not guaranteed to be bad. There are a lot of ways to increase the odds that your roommate experience won’t suck, the first of which is to have a roommate contract. Odds are that your dorm/housing people are going to require you to fill out a roommate contract/agreement thing at the beginning of the year. DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY. Basically it will be a list of things and rules that you and your room/suitemates agree to, regarding stuff like when guests can be over and if/how food can be shared, and so on. Take it seriously, and take a copy of it, so if shit starts going down in your dorm you can back yourself up with it. It’s pretty unlikely that anything will come up that you won’t be able to fix by just talking to whoever is causing the problem, but by having the roommate contract you can have some clout to throw around in case talking it out doesn’t work.
Now the real good news is that while my first year was kinda sucky, every other year after that kicked ass. I got to room with some awesome friends I made that first year and it was frickin’ awesome. And even if you’re dorming with strangers, the chances are that they’ll actually be cool and nice people. So don’t sweat it too much. Just keep an eye on your forks.
And I freaking miss you too!! POOP TONS OF MISS! Tell your mom hi too!
