One occupational hazard of a time traveller was sometimes you had to be careful if you knew that another you was in the same time zone as the present you.
Sarah Jane chuckled at the thought as Back to the Future 2 started on the TV in the living. Luke, Skye, Clyde, and Rani were sprawled out on the floor, massive bowls of popcorn occupying the space between them.
October 21, 2015.
The Doctor took her to London today. Well, today as in there were currently two Sarah Jane Smiths in London. Currently, the past Sarah Jane and The Fourth Doctor were in a theater watching a three movie marathon celebrating the day that Marty McFly had come to the future.
Ever since then, Sarah Jane had had a soft spot for the trilogy and made sure to attend all three premiers when they finally caught up with her timeline. And of course, she couldn’t help but watch them again today, at least for a bit.
As the “future” made it’s first appearance, Clyde let out a grumble that sounded suspiciously like “where’s my hoverboard” and it took a fair amound of her self control to hold in a laugh, especially with a certain robotic dog who could levitate sitting on the floor next to her.
As Marty took the place of his son, Sarah Jane paused the DVD. “Alright kids, you can finish the third one but when I get back I expect your homework to be done.”
“Can’t we come with you?” Skye turned, giving her a begging look.
Shaking her head at her daughter, Sarah Jane tossed the remote to Luke. “Not today.”
“But you’ll tell us about it, right?” Rani’s gaze was eager and the teens all adopted a similar expression.
“As soon as I get back. Now back to your movie.” She got up and headed upstairs, K-9 following her. “You’ll keep an eye on them while I’m gone, right?”
“Affirmative, Mistress.”
They entered the attic and Sarah Jane went over to her bag. “Mister Smith, I need you.”
After waiting for the computer to open up, Sarah Jane picked up the file she’d been working on.
“Good afternoon, Sarah Jane. Are you leaving for the McFly Expo?”
“I’m on my way out, Mister Smith. Can you monitor the convention center where it’s being held.”
“I’ll keep you updated if anything changes.”
“Thank you Mister Smith.” Sarah Jane called over her shoulder as she made her way down the stairs.
“Have fun, Sarah Jane.”
Checking in on the kids, she found the happily absorbed in the movie and made her way out to the car. The McFly Expo was about a half-hour’s drive giving her plenty of time to reminisce and enjoy the Back to the Future soundtrack, which she contently had playing at levels that would make Rani proud.
Arriving at the Expo, she parked and made her way through the crowd, taking care to grab the free map and guide that was offered. If she’d learned one thing in her years of experience, she had learned to always take the freebies.
You never knew what would come in handy.
