Weyr-bred whers are incredibly intelligent and useful companions, able to do the job of most other domesticated animals in a pinch (and so were once seen as incredibly valuable). Weyr-bred whers run in packs to trap and tire out prey and are infamous for their very powerful bites (and necrotizing saliva).
They're fairly rare on Geisa, as they were lost during the Long Night and aren't native to the island itself. Most of the population only know of whers from iconography and in stories, but have never encountered one themselves. Recent attempts have been made to bring feral whers back from the Old Continent and reintroduce them into public consciousness.
