I'm having Skybound Music Thoughts again.

This song? This is Nya's death scene to me.

We open with an absolute DOOZY that, to me, sounds a lot like the dilemma Jay's presented with when Nya's on her way out: burn the wish and save her, or let her die to stand a chance against Nadakhan. Thing is, if we take this from Nya's POV, the harming thing isn't the conflict itself or even Nadakhan looming over them both; it's the final wish. It's the temptation that drove him to waste his first to try and impress her. It's all the associated power and the possible consequences, like the ones that tore the team to shreds... but it's also the potential that wish has to do some good.

Nya recognizes that. She stalls until she dies to protect that saving throw from being wasted on her, because she can tell Jay wants to do that even though it's the worst move in the grand scheme of right then. By dying, she drives Lloyd's prophecy to come true. Jay takes that heartfelt, selfless option and defuses the harm of that last wish.

Then, after some other stuff that fits well enough but I'm not in a mood to break down now, we have this entire verse:

I could say too much about this - like how "want without demanding" is sort of what Nya wants of Jay's behavior and what he's growing towards - but right now: does the combo of "I'm not meant to be here" and "Made the deal with one agreement/Never to be left out" kind of sound like "I never wanted to be part of your boy's club anyway" to anyone else?

Because it does to me. And that's the part that really drove this mini analysis: Nya agreed to join the team as one of them with the expectation of being included as an equal. Yet she spends Skybound on unequal footing and facing challenges that are still wholly her own, carrying weights nobody else carries just because of how the world sees her, and deep down she may be still feels she isn't meant to be here - she's meant to be her own individual self saving the world her own way, not dying in the dust after being hunted down like a trophy just for having the 6155002 . Hence the boy's club line, which I do think is more than a weak attempt at lightening the mood, but that's a thought for another day.

Anyway. In conclusion: I am screaming. Go listen to the song.
