a guy I was in a bunch of groups with in college just connected with me on linkedin and if you just looked at his page you’d be like wow this guy graduated magna cum laude he was a fulbright scholar he got an MBA from a super prestigious program he founded a biotech company he was published in prestigious medical journals wowow this guy must be brilliant and exceptional in every way!!!! but I have the inside track so I know that he was absolutely insufferable and people used to engage in furious maneuverings to avoid being in the same car as him on long drives :) never forget that the most intimidatingly accomplished people you encounter in the world may also be just so, so unbelievably annoying :)))

GG: "Just so you know, next time you get lazy again, I'm gonna get on you about it!"

Me: "It's... not being lazy GG, it's having a chronic illness. It's being sick."

GG: "Okay, fine then IF you get sick again, I'll give you two days before I start in on you."

Me: "We've told you like 50 times it's have an autoimmune and a chronic pain disorder—I'm sick all the time. Chronic is like, in the name."

GG: "Well, even if you ARE sick or in pain all the time, you know, I'm old, which means I'm in pain too sometimes! Probably more than you! But I just don't think about it and go to the gym and go out with my friends anyway! Why can't you just live your life and get over it like me? Just pretend!
