man the “if you go to sleep faster you can wake up faster and snuggle with mommy in the big bed” trick worked again… why is this logic so powerful to him haha
I love this child and I need him to be in BED. ideally ASLEEP. it is too late for shenanigans mom is off the clock
According to Know Your Meme, on August 18th, 2005, Erwin Beekveld brought forth this work into the world. HAPPY TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY, THEY’RE TAKING THE HOBBITS TO ISENGARD.

ugh my stomach is still soooo rough and I have three and a half hours of student presentations to get through on campus this afternoon 😭😭😭 I am going to make a call on whether I can go by 10:30am so I can let kids know. ugh rescheduling would be such a huge pain in the ass but I think better than sprinting out of there mid presentation multiple times because I’m about to **** ** *****. but maybe I’ll feel better later in the day like I did yesterday? ughhhh ok ok it’s fine. the amazing news is that it’s 7:23am and the baby is still asleep
I wrote an offhanded post a few weeks ago about using humor to defuse power struggles with a toddler and people keep reblogging it, which is sometimes annoying because it reminds me I’m not always following my own advice… and sometimes helpful because it reminds me that I can start following my own advice again lol. today he would NOT get in his car seat (a behavior that drives me up the WALL) and I did all the ineffectual things (counting to five, threatening to take away his beloved mini gatorade bottle, trying to bribe him with treats, etc) before being like DEEP BREATH I must get silly. so I hid behind the car door and reemerged as a new character with a funny accent who kept trying and failing to buckle his puppy dog stuffed animal into the car seat. annoyingly this worked almost immediately to get him in the seat with no protest
first test of the day: can I stand up long enough to shower
smoothie has been consumed. so far so good but there are distant rumblings that make me fear the worst…
okay I am still a bit shaky but am much better… that was a rough night and morning woof. I’m starving but scared to eat anything in case the reason I’m feeling better is because my stomach is totally empty lol. perhaps a smoothie?
I’m so sick lol that was the night from hell
I have not thrown up yet. but I feel it may be coming for me
ok I did it I took the day off everyone clap
crazy the mind games I will play with myself before taking a day off even when I’m legitimately not well lol. what is this aversion to using my PTO which is for this express purpose
the baby got into my purse and rapidly ate four pieces of gum while I was in the other room 🙄 in the past he’s sometimes gotten ahold of gum and just unwrapped it and licked it before hiding the pieces elsewhere so we had the following conversation:
me: honey. honey where did you put the gum
the baby: I put in my mouth [pointing]
me: ok but then where did you put it after that?
the baby: [thinking very hard] …. IN MY TUMMY!!!
it’s so deeply rude that all the meds you have to take to try to have a baby give you first trimester symptoms. like why am I profoundly nauseous, headachey, and exhausted right now. bc meds
ok he’s down for a nap and I’m done with tutoring. this headache is rapidly becoming pretty bad yikes so gonna try to sleep for two hours… pray that he stays down that long
gosh i was sooooo stuck with this one kid... spent an hour last night and almost two hours this morning before our meeting trying to figure out what to do with his essay... but WE DID IT i think i just need to trust the process with kid like it's going to feel impossible but we will get there just by asking lots and lots of questions. this introspection does not come super easily to him but he's also refreshingly game to try which i appreciate! that is not always true about the kids who don't like to reflect or write. mm ok i have a pounding headache and one hourlong meeting to go but then i can collapse into bed and hopefully nap again while the baby naps... soooo weary. thank god this week is reasonably chill... i am going to make my list of things that must get done at work and then once those things are done my time is my own
