Albums I Listened to (March to April 2025)

This Cold Night- While I Disappear

Black Cathedral was sitting in my goth playlist for a good year or so before I finally decided to give While I Disappear a full listen. I wish it was longer than five songs. I liked Each Other, and thought the way the lyric "We have each other" was sung was neat. Like some sort of zombie re-emerging from the earth. The synths about halfway through Holding On were a very nice touch. I had kind of mixed feelings about Death Knell, but the solo around 1:30 was cool. The album finished out strong with Wings of Regret. Compared to other goth albums I've listened to, While I Disappear was almost minimalistic with discordant guitars and plaintive vocals being the main characters, and little backing bass or synth, which made for a nice low-key experience. This is one of the very rare no-skip albums in my roster.

Rosetta Stone- An Eye for the Main Chance

Another rare album where I actually like most of the songs. The only ones I didn't like were Heart and Soul. I was neutral on Subterfuge. Overall good album with a bunch of tracks earning a spot of honor on my goth playlist

Rosetta Stone- Chemical Emissions

I was initially confused by the first track, recognizing it as a version of An Eye for the Main Chance from the titular album, and To Leave Behind No More as a version of Shadow from the same. They weren't bad per se, I was just expecting all-unique songs on this album. I liked these alternative versions though, they seemed to have a bit more of an electric edge to them than the Eye versions. Sacred to Me immediately gave "ABBA but with mild depression" vibes. Wasn't really a fan of that one, especially with the static effects that kind of hurt my ears. Overall I liked the industrial sound from this album.
