With the implacable Mr. Carver dogging his every move, Dylan never dreamed he'd fall in love with anybody. It would be too dangerous to include anyone else in his life.

But Nick Parker, a young biker, had come to his rescue once when it seemed like a certain death for the young cowboy. The two young men couldn't fight their attraction to each other and gave in.

Alas, as Dylan foresaw, Mr. Carver decided that - if for no other reason than to torture Dylan that little bit more - poor Nick had to be included in his death grudge as well.

Now, as if being pitted in yet another deathtrap was bad enough, all Dylan could do was stare helplessly across at his true love, and plead "I'm sorry!" as Mr. Carver's mercenary thugs rigged up the bomb.

1981 UK Armada paperback editions, with photo covers featuring Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy to tie in with The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew TV show. It ran for three series in the US from 1977 to 1979. I can remember at least one series being shown in the UK, presumably around 1981, but I don't recall it being a big success here.

These are the only two Hardy Boys stories that I remember having photo covers in the UK. There could have been more but I note the book in-between these two 'The Twisted Claw' is shown on the back covers of each with the standard Peter Archer cover.

While the Clock Ticked

 was the first Hardy Boys book cover to grab my attention, for reasons which will become obvious if you don’t already know.

There have been so many different editions, but they fall into two categories.

Those who drew it as a sort of standard adventure story

And those who drew it utterly determined to make the most of the opportunity to paint two handsome young men bound and gagged and imperilled in front of a grandfather clock....

And then there’s the Hebrew edition, which is charming, beautiful and is of... a man with a pipe reading a book in a bay window... what THAT has to do with anything in the book is anyone’s guess.

And, finally, we have the Russian cover, which seems to have been someone trying to do a round of pictionary with the prompt “Something to do with clocks, a bomb, someone tied up, and imminent death.. and your time started ten seconds ago”
