Honestly this is such a tricky thing because she’s...not Sesshomaru’s wife. She’s Inuyasha’s wife who she loves with her entire being unconditionally. And that would make her.. almost like a mother-in-law save she’s not Izayoi, who is her mother in law, but long long gone and Kagome and Izayoi I know would adore each other to bits. I feel like Inukimi would glance at this tiny, human miko and go ‘oh she’s the reincarnation blah blah she’s so short and I could snap her like a twig’ and yes, she could probably, but that’s not good family Inukimi! Kagome is just as much a threat in her own right and I think she’s ancient enough to sense that Kagome with this limitless power... is a really big threat to demons.
Ironically though, I don’t think it has anything to do with Kagome’s insane levels of power as a character that’s in training to even warrant acknowledgment, though it may at least let her know hey, don’t be rude to me, thank you ma’am? Kagome would be nothing but civil, and polite and kind. She’s already calling Sesshomaru jokingly big brother, because he is family to her even if he’s...not been the nicest or kindest to Inuyasha, he has saved her life twice.
I think it’s Kagome’s indomitable will and absolute confidence in herself that will be a big factor. Not flinching in the eye when she meets her gaze. Propping her tiny shoulders back. At the very least it’ll be hilarious that this tiny woman, who killed Naraku, is literally so tiny, so frail looking, but has a fire that could outshine the sun in her eyes. And I honestly think it’s Kagome’s attitude and will that far will leave an impression on her distant, newly made kin.
It will be a test for her to deal with a powerful, ancient being likely being snide, but if she can finish Naraku, face down countless enemies with her friends as a group of heroes and conquer time? She’s got this. She isn’t here to make enemies of the other side of Inuyasha’s father’s family. If anything, she’ll be determined to get along with her! To be respectful and I can see them eventually taking walks together up in her palace or Kagome gently volunteering to do some chores that her servants probably would because she’s ‘overwhelmed by how big it is up here!’ Inukimi laughing at the ‘pure simplicity’ of Kagome and how she’s so willing even as she rises in experience / power / position since Kaede will pass eventually, to be so humble and not be any less confident! She likes herself! She knows who she is! She doesn’t need her approval! But she is GONNA CARE ABOUT HER ANYWAY!
I do think Kagome will come to love Inukimi, but earning that love back? Is far from easily earned, much less her respect. But Kagome will expect nothing less, no matter who or what you are, and that in my opinion, may be above all her powers, all her exploits, be what opens a tiny ray of light on the first wife of Inuyasha’s father.
Basically Megs, I’m all for it!
