Swirly flower patterns
I miss when the world felt more colorful and creative, where houses and the things that you’d purchase had some personality to them that made it feel special. Do you guys remember when things had those pretty swirl designs on them? It was between 2006 and 2009 when I really started noticing them as a child but I digress, it’s called frutiger floral I think? Anyways, it always felt like you could easily identify with the things that you bought as most of them carried some distinct design, like there was a specific lifestyle aligned to what you owned with that pattern on it weather it’d be floral designs, colorful hollow squares or an animal print.
Like i could imagine some girl called Lizzy owning several pencils and diaries with this exact pattern.
As consumerist as that sounds, it felt more authentic than most current aesthetics do today. Maybe it’s because back in the day prior to Shien and Temu you would gradually collect items that matched your vibe instead of conveniently buying everything in one go. Or maybe it’s because there wasn’t an urgency to align yourself with an aesthetic, it was just something you discovered or that you'd come across naturally as you collected more. There was something “exclusive” about it despite multiple people owning something similar, the feeling of coming across something cool one day during a mall outing with your parents really made it feel like “yours” y'know? But yeah, I’m just yapping to yap lol.
Anyways I created something similar in my own home to bring that feeling of nostalgia back, similar to the flora design I spoke of, All it took was some black wall paint, a paint brush and a light pencil sketch I’m too lazy to erase.
