Met up at the Freemasons Arms in Hampstead Heath last night with Chrys, Gill, Joy and Debbie for one of our 'whine and wine' nights. All KT friends. Lovely venue but fell down big time on service and food. Ok, we got a discount on our bill, but excuses are tedious. Yes it was a Friday, yes it was hot out, yes it was busy. But, it has been all those things for a month now! Don't cut back on staff when you know it's going to be busy, and then expect them to perform to top standards. Compensation was hard won, slow on the trot and a little too late. Hi, My Name is...

Kenna. Well, Makenna. I’m still figuring out the whole nickname/legal name/professional title thing.

Actually, I’m still figuring out a lot of things. So are a lot of people I know. We’re sifting through our lives, neurotically drinking martinis and cheap wine, calling each other on the phone in the evenings, wondering out loud if we seem “responsible” or “mature” enough. Wrapping our heads around this “adulting” thing is without sounding too “millennial”. 

I hate the term “adulting”, but it’s a real struggle. The transition from co-dependent undergrad to full-on adult comes with some new expectations. Ones that they DIDN’T teach us about in public school. 

There are lots of things we all could use a little more direction on. We could use someone to teach it, from our perspective. With a sense of humor. And plenty of liquor. 

So, here we are in this fine establishment. Here’s some of the stuff I’d like to try to learn to do, either on my own or with someone who knows what they’re doing. And, well, I’m going to write about it, and/or video tape it (lord...who still says video tape?). Hopefully, I’ll learn to be an adult along the way... and maybe you will too.

taking care of a baby

OK so everyone always tells you that babies are hard work right? your pregnant and someone random on the street tells you to be ready for the lack of sleep, get ready to say goodbye to girls night and friends? nope! that is never the case. what they should tell you is get ready for leaky boobs, and the amazing bonding time between your baby and you. for my son and i. its amazing the bond we already have and he is just two months old! seriously!! it is such a rewarding job being a mom. but the lack of sleep part everyone tells you about is completely true! and sleeping when the baby sleeps is not always the case . but at the end of the night, when baby is asleep and all is quiet in the house. that is when the wine comes out! haha. nothing better than a quiet house, a little bit of music playing , nice dinner and some wine!
