11, 12, 15 for Madrigal.

11: What do you like best about this fic?

Oddly enough, I really like the structure of this one, the way it’s clearly structured as a story, but also mimics a piece of music.  I liked mirroring the individual stories within the greater story, too.

12: What do you like least about this fic?

Madrigal is one of my personal favorites, so this is a pretty hard question.  Probably that, because of the tight focus on Haymitch, Finnick, and Johanna, I didn’t really get to play much with any secondary characters.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

This was the first fic where I really tried to cover a lot of ground in a shorter story.  (You know, for certain values of “shorter” - this baby is still over 20k words.)  I guess I’d have to say that I learned how to distill the very complex lives of three of my favorite characters down to the most important events and relationships.  There’s not really a whole lot of filler in this one.

Immortan Joe: ☼ ⊕ϡ ☠

☼ Joe was the kind of kid that all the other kids looked up to. He didn’t have to say much, but everyone knew not to mess with him or his friends. It helped that he grew fast and was twice the size of most kids his age. From an early age, he was used to being respected.

⊕ He’s got great eyesight and incredible aim. Back in his army days, he always won competitions for sharpshooting. He’s also a big fan of music - anything with spirit and vigor. He sings or hums when he’s deep in thought, in a good mood, or trying to calm himself. There’s a lot of old songs that he’s taught his War Boys.

ϡ Joe is deeply confident of his own value and talents. However, he also has a lot of anxiety that has only worsened as he’s gotten older and sicker, principally about the very thing he claims he already has: immortality. He sees himself as the founder of a new dynasty on earth and is terrified that it will collapse as soon as he passes away. He’s the type of person who feels his mortality weighing heavier on him every day and it only makes him more determined to make sure he never truly disappears. He also believes himself to have a lot of empathy and understanding for others, even though he actually only has empathy for who he believes them to be.

☠ Joe experimented with drugs as a younger man, but he hates the way it makes him feel out of control. As an older man, he’s paranoid of anything that could poison his body. He drinks alcohol occasionally when he’s in a lot of pain (whiskey in particular), but tends to stay away from it, worried that it will hasten his physical denigration.

Haymitch and Johanna, Notorious, getting ready to head to Four.

“You all packed, Old Man?” Johanna asked as she ducked under the flap to enter the tent she shared with Haymitch.  “We don’t have much time and there’s one more thing we have to do before we head out.”

Haymitch paused in the act of buckling his saddlebag, fixing stormy gray eyes on her.  A shiver went through Johanna at the thought of losing him, but she knew they both had to do this.  They couldn’t just let Finnick die, not if they could do anything at all to help Annie save him.

“What’s that?” his voice was gruff, clipped.  He felt the same urgency she did, the need to move.

Striding over to him, she pulled the saddlebags out of his hands and dropped them to the ground.  She flattened her body against his and, gripping his face in the palms of her hands, met and held his gaze.  “I love you, Haymitch Abernathy.  Before we leave--”

“Before we rush off to die, you mean?”

She shook his head and continued before she could talk herself out of it.  “Marry me.”

He sucked in a sharp breath and she felt him try to pull away, didn’t let him do it.  “What did you say?”

“You heard me.”  Searching his face, scruffy beard, black hair shot with silver, the lines decades of thankless, hopeless mentoring had carved into his cheeks and forehead, she brushed his lips with hers.  “Marry me,” she whispered.

I ship it, but it’s not an OTP for me. I always want them to at least be buds, though. I don’t need them to be a couple, but I do need them to be at least friends and partners in snark.

Rebellious!

What was my inspiration for this fic? How did it come to me?Rebellious is really just the second half of Victorious, so I really have to address these with both fics in mind.  So to answer this question in regard to Victorious-Rebellious, I wanted to write Finnick and Annie as pirates, complete with some stripe of “parrot.”What’s my favorite part of the fic?Particularly with Rebellious, it’s probably where Annie is leading the pirate fleet to rescue Finnick and the boats of District 4 all part to let them through.What’s the part of the fic I’m most proud of?Hmm…  Probably that I managed to write an adventure novel from start to finish all with my own plot, no prompts from anyone (although I couldn’t have done it without bouncing ideas off you, so… *squish*).What part of the fic was the hardest for me to write?Finnick’s rescue, simply because of the logistics of it.  I practically had to diagram things out to make sure I kept things consistent and didn’t use a character here and there at the same time.  :PWhat part of the fic am I still dissatisfied with?Honestly, it’s been so long since I’ve read it, that I can’t think of anything right now.Who’s my favorite character in the fic?I really kinda like both Mairenn and Paul.  It was fun to write a couple of original characters.Were there any major decisions I made about the fic that could have made it go a whole different direction?I can’t think of any decisions that would have taken it in a whole different direction, but originally in that last Hunger Games, I had planned that Mairenn was going to die and Rhys live, so those Games took on a life of their own.Was there anything I only learned about the fic after I had finished it? (themes, motifs, symbolism, etc)I’m going to stick with the answer I gave earlier - I’m not good at things like themes and stuff like that.  It is what it is.Did anyone in the fic surprise me by doing anything? If so, what?Oops.  See above with Mairenn and Rhys.If I had to sum up this fic in a sentence, what would it be?District 4 takes care of its own, and in the process frees Panem from a nasty little tyrant.  :DIf I were to rewrite this fic, what would I change?Can’t think of a thing.  I really kinda like Victorious-Rebellious.Did any thing about this fic’s reception surprise me?Given how horribly dark it starts out, I’m a little surprised so many people stuck with it to the end.What were my beta’s major comments about the first draft of this fic?I seem to recall you her being very excited about it being an original look at the way things could have gone if the first rebellion failed.If I were to write a sequel to this fic, what would it be about?Notorious will follow the adventures of Johanna Mason and Haymitch Abernathy before, during, and after the events of Victorious-Rebellious.  And someday I will be able to expand on that one chapter I’ve written of it.

Thank you, my dear! Yes, he’s feeling a lot better but today I woke up with his cold…the perils of marriage. 

Yes, I have two of them—one that’s AU and the other in the THG universe. I’ll definitely be working on those this weekend! I’m excited as I’m pretty set on the story lines.

I wonder which one of them is worse when they’re sick—Haymitch or Johanna? 

I’m willing to bet Haymitch. Johanna would just pop an aspirin in her mouth and move on. :D
