Hey! I was thinking about your Monster Jon AU (always) and I was wondering if you have plans/ideas for later in the apocalypse when they come across Basira/Melanie and Georgie. Even when he was human, no one but Martin fully trusted him (poor Jon), and I’d be curious to see their reactions to him now (especially when they find out he and Martin are dating lol)

The whole Basira meeting big ol beastie Jon is one of the main reasons I made this au. The interaction is stuck in my brain. I want to get through some other shenanigans before I get to it in the fic series, and because that scene is just gnawing away at me, it’s made writing the between bits really difficult :( I want them to meet Helen first!!! And smite Jude Perry!! Cause there’s a big ‘wacky monster anatomy/instincts’ surprise there :))

But yeah, Martin is a bit bitter about how the others treated Jon. Like, he gets it. But that’s his boyfriend >:( the others seeing Jon looking so wholly inhuman, but acting gentle and still as anxious as ever will definitely be eye opening. He’s still the weird little asshole nerd they knew. He’s just. Fucking horrifying and huge now.

Hey! I suspect that I might have ADHD, but I’m afraid to go and get assessed because I’m worried that the doctor will say I don’t actually have it and that all my problems really are just my fault for being lazy and having poor time management and not paying enough attention to things. Did you have this fear? How much has being diagnosed actually helped you vs just trying to slog through and figure out how to manage it on your own?

Yes! I felt that way before getting diagnosed, too.

Getting diagnosed was incredibly helpful. It gave me access to an adult ADHD skills class offered through my health provider. And it meant that I could get medication, which has been life-changing for me.

It also helped me realign my thinking and expectations for myself. I can make conscious adjustments and accommodations that help me function rather than wallowing in, “Ughhh, what is WRONG with me?? Why can’t I just do the thing?”

There is definitely still some slogging through and figuring it out on your own after getting diagnosed. What works for some people doesn’t work for everyone. There will be trial and error. But knowing my diagnosis helps to put me in the right mental space to problem solve and give myself some grace when I screw up.

Plus, being on medication helps me feel the motivation and focus to actually follow through on the accommodations I’ve set up.

P.S. Even if you don’t have ADHD, a good mental health doctor will understand that you’re struggling regardless. They can help you figure out if there’s something else going on and what support you need. If they just say, “Nope, you don’t have ADHD. Bye!” ask for a second opinion and keep advocating for yourself.

caramel macchiato (coffee with caramel) always works for me!

i love caramel macchiato but i’ve never made one at home. i’ll have to try :)
