Yesterday, I went to use my lump hammer, and as is the fate of all wood handled hammers, found the head loose, if only slightly. The good folks @crucibletool send along a metal wedge to fix this inevitability. I used my fathers’s old and beaten lump hammer in a fit of sentimental continuity to beat the wedge in place (Owe, my shoulder. Next time buy a sledge.) Back in 2016 Lynn Dowd (and his wife and a friend) crated up and shipped the 300lbs cabinet built by Mr. Wall. As you can see from the note, still in the back of the cabinet, Mr. Wall was a meticulous man, with an eye toward the future, and from what I understand, a good friend of Lynn’s. Lately, I’ve been reminded too frequently that we are caretakers of things that outlast our time. I’d like to believe that Mr. Wall and Mr. Dowd would be pleased with my use of the cabinet and pleased that the effort to get it here was not wasted. It still contains the few bits of personal notes etc. with which it arrived.
