“A’Ghealach”
by Brittany Campo.
Hi, my name is Brittany, I am an illustration major.
This is for Month Of Love’s “White” challenge. Originally I was going to do the black prompt, but my instructor and I found this illustration (at that time just the line work) was more suited for the white prompt. The traditional meaning of the Moon card is something along the lines of “things are not always as they appear to be”. Here I illustrated a faerie woman who was thought to be a part of the unseely court (in celtic lore there are two courts: seely- Tricksters who deep down are either neutral or lighthearted and good, but just enjoy pranks. and unseely- Bad faeries. Unseely court faeries like to cause mischief that is potentially harming and even sometimes fatal.) and punished for it wrongfully. She however escaped from those who wished to do her harm. She meets the loch ness monster or “Nessie”, still a young baby and befriends the monster. I got really metaphorical with this and the meaning of white. White in many cultures equates to purity. For me these is nothing more pure than some one who has been misunderstood and hurt for it, and yet spreads friendship instead of exacting revenge on those who hurt them.
