It was categorically true that Leo was terrible at reading people. Sure, he could visually see a change of expression, could hear a shift in tone. But he had no idea what to do with that information.

He could tell that Nico was going through something, but it was like staring at a drowning porcupine. A living creature that Leo wanted to save, but if Leo tried to fish it out of the water, all he’d get was a handful of quills.
