thanks everyone who helped chipped in for moms meds, we managed to buy a few fruits for Christmas Eve :D

this is completely tog unrelated but since i know a lot of people have gotten into italian shows because of luca did anyone watch suburra:blood on rome? (aah i feel like im unclear there's no luca in this)? it's a pretty good show and one could argue that a gay love story is a big part of it. im not done yet but i really wanna scream about it

thinking about me watching goldfinch for the first time, when i haven't read the damn book, seeing the last few scenes and feeling like i'm on a rollercoaster ride. we see boris pull theo in to do the very tender forehead-touch. we see them happy.

then it happens - boris is shot.

my brain immediately jumps to "he's gone, he's gone" because we already seen snapshots of theo in his hotel room, scrubbing blood off of his shirt and i had bad feelings about it the whole time. and we get to theo about to kill himself in his hotel room. i think that's it for him too. he's doing it because boris is dead, i think. because of the painting, i think. he's in bed and you see snapshots of his mom and i'm thinking this is him seeing her when he's gonna cross over. i'm expecting credits to roll. i think that's it for the film.

then... boris is back, he's alive he's fucking ALIVE, hauling theo out of his hotel bed, trying to make him throw up the pills, taking him outside and making him walk in the snow to keep him conscious. these two are alive and made it out together and??? fuck what the fuck i didn't expect it at all. then there's boris telling him about the painting... that his bird is safe... they're both emotional asf and my ass is crying too. these boys. i couldn't believe this didn't have a tragic ass ending. they're safe and the painting is safe and it's christmas time and theo is with boris and boris is with theo and everything is suddenly... fine.

how the fuck are critics talking about this being a horrible film when so many of us had such an emotional, even a physical reaction to it??? people who never read the book having a reaction to it?? clownery. justice for the goldfinch 2019
