The spider and the blossom
The spider queen was watching the forests out of her window, her legs crossed elegantly. Faint moonlight was being scattered by the branches of dead trees, just barely illuminating the ground below. The night had been quiet so far, cold and ominous, but most of all..lonely. Nothing ever seemed to be happening on these desolate islands, which was none too surprising, considering how dangerous it could be around here.
She could remember, when she used to lure unsuspecting souls onto these forsaken lands, only to have to sacrifice them, so she could prolong her life a little more. It was a deed, she was not proud of and it had left a feeling of regret. Yet, ever since she had found the true key to living forever, she was no longer bound by the dependence on Vilemaw. And after she was finally free to do what she wanted, she quickly realized, how dull and lonely her life on the shadow isles actually had been.
A few spiderlings were fighting over a piece of meat and Elise watched one pushing away the other and skittering off with it. They had been her only real form of company and while she appreciated the little critters, she longed for something else. After a while, a sense of boredom overcame her and she let out a long and soft sigh. She decided to take a walk through the forest, to distract herself a little, even hoping a little, that perhaps..just maybe, something would happen.
And to her surprise..as she walked past one of her carefully laid out threads, that connected all the webs in the area, they started vibrating, as seemingly something bigger touched her webs. It didn’t feel like it was just one of the usual forest creatures, that tended to get snared in them. A smirk formed on the spider queen’s lips..finally something interesting happened.
