of  course  he  had  …  right ?   the  very  SENTIMENT  is  one  lyss  hasn’t  quite  escaped  from  in  constant  chattering  and  relentless  presence.  in  spite  of  it,  the  words  still  strike  his  aching  core  ——–  maybe  this  is  the  first  time  he’s  ever  heard  her  say  it.  MAYBE  such  cherished  company  has  always  been  through  rose - colored  glasses  and  now ,   the  real  thing  is  so  much  NICER. 

         ❛  well …  i …   ❜    WET  CHEEKS  are  wiped  clean  with  long  sleeves,  a  weak  attempt  at  composure.    ❛  yeah.  we’re  friends,  right ?   best  friends.  ❜

(  that’s  IT.  )   irritation  twists  expression,  he  can’t  STAND  this.  this  is  THEIR  burden  ——-  it  would  be  shared.   so  STUBBORN ,   just  like  yuu,  and  he  won’t  have  it.  not  right  now.  

how  QUICKLY  heart  could  give  way  to  sadness  in  this  cold,  WAR - TORN  earth.  for experiment  whose  very  purpose  lied  in  DESTRUCTION,  alma  could  not  always  bear  the  weight  alone.  they  share  the  same  fate  of  course,  DESTINIES  wrenched  from  small  hands  and  carved  into  something  much  GREATER.  “ HOPE  FOR  MANKIND ”  ———  title  of  such  ESTEEM  and  yet ,   all  these  years  have  been  spent  convincing  himself  of  that  honor.  scavenging  empty  halls  for  reasons  to  smile,  clinging  desperately  to  this  hope  that  this  ABYSMAL  world  is  worth  it.  

by  NO  means  does  that  make  his  happiness  more  worthy  than  hers.  see,  at  the  end  of  the  day  …  lyss  is  just  the  same.  they  are  one.  her  heart  is  just  the  same  as  his.  

       ❛  what  are  you  talking  about ?  ❜    tongue  comes  SHARP  with  criticism,  though  blow  is  softened  by  soothing  touch.    ❛  we’re  in  this  together.  we  will  be  happy  together  and  we  will  grieve  together.  i  love  you,  lyss,  and  our  happiness  comes  TOGETHER.  ❜

do  you  want  to  be  … in  this  lifetime,  how  many  times  had  anyone  really  bothered  to  ask  them  something  like  that ?    moment  reserved  to  MARVEL  at  his  dearest  friend,  wrapping  self  in  half-hearted  hold.  

             ❛  i’m  not  ——  ❜    struggling  to  find  the  words,  struggling  to  make  SENSE  of  emotional  storm,    ❛  unhappy.  ❜    yuu  lets  him  be  close,  tolerates  incessant  chatter  and  near  constant  touch.  happiness  consecrates  EXHAUSTED  existence  with  his  very  presence.    (  and  yet ,   something  more  …  like  what  lyss  has  with  lavi  …  )

            ❛  it  doesn’t  matter  anyhow,  right ?  ❜    feeble  smile  takes  root,  face  turned  to  the  sky.    ❛  yuu  doesn’t  like  that  sort  of  thing !  ❜

UNCERTAINTY  churns ,   resolved  only  by  desperation  to  help  such  a  dear  friend.  love  …  could  be  so  tricky  with  lives  like  theirs.  they  know  well  enough  that  what  could  begin  as  innocuous  romance  could  be  tainted  with  DEATH ,   twisted  by  the  very  MAKER  of  akuma  into  something  abhorrent.    (  to  watch  the  one  you  love  die  …  it’s  a  curse  he  can’t  fathom,  a  horrible  fate  he’d  wish  not  even  on  his  worst  enemy.  ) 

and  yet.  what  is  this  world  without  the  ones  they  love ?

        ❛  then  don’t.  ❜    FAR  from  orchestrated  response,  he  sighs.    ❛  lyss,  if  you  love  him  ——-  if  you  REALLY  love  lavi,  you  should  do  something  about  it.  ❜ 

god  knows  their  lives  have  been  deemed  too  short  to  hold  back.
