i’m sure this is extremely obvious and i could probably get away with not mentioning it, BUT: these are three things off a list of approximately a million and a half. *cracks knuckles in preparation* HERE GOES NOTHING.

1. she tries to learn from her mistakes before making any new ones! -- sure, this line comes in season four - which might be a bit late in the game. really, though, she’s been growing tremendously up until this point, even if she herself doesn’t fully realize that. for me, the sincerity of her ‘i’m sorry’ to ted in ‘happy anniversary’ really showed how she knew she’d messed up that situation. sure, it was partially brought on by mutt and tennessee. STILL. and the whole ‘bettering herself’ business just continued to grow from there - it was most excellent to behold!

2. all of her awesome/scary/outlandish life experiences! -- josh groban has a thick leather binder full of ground rules. dating all three hanson brothers for a summer. bubble tea and chill with adam levine. drivers’ licenses in seven countries - and most likely the languages to match - and an f-class. negotiating in arabic. parallel parking in a burka. weathering regime changes and pirates. etc, etc, etc.

3. her wardrobe! -- SO SHALLOW, I KNOW. i seriously love almost all of her outfits, though! the floral/patterned dresses, more than one ballet-pink item, the floppy hats, the fluffy white hanging-with-ted/post-wedding sweater, the sideways A necklace - why, yes, i do have the exact same sideways E from anthropologie and  i’m sure you wanted to know that :D!

Why I like...

I want to do a thing. I reblog a lot of characters and stuff.  So if you’re curious about why I like a certain character, ask me!  I would love to explain!  Characters are my favorite thing.

Why I Like

I consider myself as very changeable and inconsistent. I can say - MEEE LIKE-Y (with absolutely silly face) to a variety of TV-shows and Films, from Sherlock and Doctor Who to Strike Back, from Supernatural to Fringe, from The O.C. to 90210 (ignore the last part). And this all can change in an instant or with the time goes by.

Why I like ... Martin Freeman

Yes really WHY??? He is not a type most people (women) will consider handsome. Let’s face it... he is not... BUT there is something in him. Oh I do not know! You just can't help but want to submerge with him into the cosy old sofa, with glass of wine or beer, to watch something old and funny and stupid, to laugh at his jokes and comments, to fall in sleep feeling absolutely at home... you know as if there is no other place you'd rather be. For me he just radiates this irrational feeling of cosines, warmth and all silly fluffy stuff... I should shut up now...

Why I like....Rory

The great thing, for me, about characters like Rory and Rose is that the show takes examples of people I wouldn't like very much in real life and shows me how extraordinary they can be. But while Rose was waiting for something to come along, something to happen, Rory was not. The most adventure and excitement Rory wanted or needed in his life was an Earthbound Amy Pond. The whole grow up, get a job, get married, have a couple of kids thing was not just what he was settling for or what he wanted because he'd been told to. That's contentment and happiness for Rory. That Leadworth dream from Amy's Choice IS Rory's dream.

So the fact that contact with the Doctor has completely thrown that out the window and all Rory has really done about it is prove how AWESOME he can be--that's amazing. Rory: You know what's dangerous about you? It's not that make people take risks, it's that you make them want to impress you. You make it so they don't want to let you down. You have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves! Doctor: How can you be here? Rory: Wha-I don't know, it's kinda fuzzy. Doctor: Fuzzy? Rory: Well, I died and turned into a Roman. It's very distracting. Rory: I have a message and a question. A message from the Doctor and a question from me: Where. Is. My. Wife? Rory: This is so wrong. Amy: I got old, Rory, what did you think was going to happen? Rory: Hey! I don't care that you got old. I care that we didn't grow old together. Rory may be a nurse as part of a nearly failed attempt to become Amy's ideal Doctor-man, but it's a profession that really suits him. I think it's important that he's a Nurse and not a Doctor because being nurses are not thought of as glamorous or as heroes--they can be heroes, but we tend to think of Doctors as the life savers. Nurses are quiet heroes. And that's Rory. But he could have chosen other avenues to try to become Dr. Williams besides the medical profession since Amy's imaginary Doctor was more of a magical repairman. He didn't. He went into caring for others. Rory is compassionate, brave, steadfast, and quick. He is, thus far, arguably the most ordinary of the Doctor's companions, and yet, when it comes down to it, he'll take an energy beam for the Doctor or stare down a room full of Cybermen. I know a lot of people didn't like how he acted in Rebel Flesh/Almost People with Jennifer with regards to Amy, but if you remove Amy from the equation for a moment it's pretty impressive. Rory is not there because he wanted to explore the universe. He's not like the companions who, after having a taste of it fell in love with the lifestyle, but when he meets a person who is a copy of a real person but made from a vat of goo he doesn't react like the other humans. He can see what whoever and whatever she is, she has feelings and thoughts and is a person, copy or original, human or creature, he can tell she's a person and he wants to help her. Now put Amy back in the picture, is what he did really about some other girl noticing him or was it something much more noble? The Ganger Jenifer played him, played on his compassion, but notice she didn't try to seduce him. When she wanted to trick him she showed him the discarded Gangers and the horror of the situation to take advantage of his empathy for the Flesh. That's something Rory came with, not something he got from traveling with the Doctor. Even when they met the Silurians, who had just kidnapped Amy, he saw them as people and not monsters. They looked different, like aliens or monsters, and he could have reacted like Ambrose. But Rory's nature is compassionate not violent. Even when he wants Amy back and is willing to fight for her, he is not a vengeful soul, he reacts with purpose and not fury. It's that controlled, forceful determination that makes him so BAMF.

Why I like....Captain Jack Harkness

One of the best things about Captain Jack Harkness is that in the very first series of New Who we introduced a character who was from a future where people were attracted to who they were attracted to without anyone caring. Where (and When) Jack is from, it's ok to like whoever you like, even if that person (or persons!) is an alien. But, as with ANYONE, who he sleeps with or hits on, is not really the point. I didn't watch the first two seasons of Torchwood, so there are doubtlessly details of the character I am unfamiliar with, but Jack starts off in DW as a disillusioned ex-Time Agent. He meets the Doctor, and like so many people, this is exactly what he needs. And, like so many, it gets him killed. But then Rose happened. I will always be sad we couldn't see their relationship play out more in season four, they never had any time to chat or for Rose to understand what she'd done or to see how Jack handled it around her.

Immortality thrust upon him, he's had to adjust to something he was never really meant for. The human mind was never meant to deal with what he's been through, and unlike Rory, he doesn't get to separate it and lock it behind a door. So Jack, like any other long lived/immortal being accumulates a lot of shades of gray in there, but like the Doctor he remains, at the core, a good man.

One thing to remember with Jack and the Doctor is that while the Doctor has been through terrible things and lived for a long time and faced many impossible choices: he's an alien. Jack remains, despite all his years, human.

Why I like....River Song

River Song. The first time I met River was The Time of Angels because I watched 1-4 in less order than the Doctor and River meet. And here's Amy calling her the Doctor's future WIFE. But from the very start I loved her relationship with the Doctor. I had no idea what was going on, really, but I loved it. And that's important because I'm the sort of person who should have reacted like "HE CAN'T HAVE A WIFE" and not "OMG I NEED TO BACK AND WATCH ANY EPS SHE'S IN" but latter is what actually happened. Because she's just that good. And at first, that's what I liked about her. I liked her relationship with him. The idea that she could wrong foot him and even better: that he'd have a nice serious relationship. When it comes to shipping and the Doctor my policy is "Yes. All of it." because he needs all the love he can get so I am never hostile to any one who loves the Doctor. And then it developed. Her relationship with the Doctor is hopelessly out of order. We don't yet know all of the implications. She was created to be a weapon against him, but, somehow it works out that she's actually his ally, friend, confidant, and wife/lover--at least at some point. But they both have massive secrets they have to keep from each other as they watch the other move, albeit not linearly, in the opposite direction. Every time, both their hearts are breaking (or possible all four of their hearts...how many does River have?). And only she can just zap in and lecture him on his naughty ways. But when I got to know River, for herself,  I loved her even more. Some people say she's a Mary Sue, some people say she is NOT, I say I DON'T CARE I am too distracted by how much I enjoy her to argue. She's funny and clever, and somehow, out all of what happens with her, she turns out wonderful. Rory: So...what kind of Doctor are you? River: Archeology. Love a tomb. Dalek: Records indicate you will show mercy, you are an associate of the Doctor's. River: I'm River Song, check your records again. Dalek: Mercy. River: Say it again. Dalek. Mercy. River: One more time. Dalek: Mercyyyyyyy. River is brave and smart and caring and strong and complicated. And mysterious, still. "The day is coming when I'll look into that man's eyes, my Doctor, and he won't have the faintest idea who I am. And I think it's going to kill me." River: "Doctor, please tell you know who I am." Doctor: "Who are you?" Doctor: Time can be rewritten. River:  Not those times. Not one line. Don't you dare. It's ok, it's ok. It's not over for you, you'll see me again. You've got all of that to come. You and me, time and space. You watch us run. "When you run with the Doctor, it feels like it will never end. But however hard you try, you can't run forever." She has an incredible burden too. Sometimes when the Doctor takes a companion back in time, they may meet some one like Vincent Van Gogh and know they are going to die. And this can be hard, Donna couldn't bare Pompeii, she had to try. But with River, that's her whole life. Every one has things they wish they could change, and River will be no different. She'll know she can't and that to meddle might only make everything worse, but the look on her face when Rory turns up to ask for her help in A Good Man Goes to War...what she must wish she could have said to him. But it goes beyond that. She may not be a Time Lord, but she is kinda-sorta close there and with that comes curses of its own. And we don't really understand what it all means yet. She may have an evil streak, or at least a "well I was RAISED TO KILL YOU" streak, but we know that in the end, even though she kills a good man, she turns out good and someone the Doctor will trust completely. And it will be fascinating to see her interact with her parents now that they know. I think she's an awesome BAMF and her story is so interesting I'm always left wanting more. And asking more questions...
