Why do I want to be a nurse?
Hopefully, in September 2014, I will start a university course to become an Adult Nurse. And I can't wait.
I'm a sort of atypical wannabe nurse - I'm about 6'2, stocky Cymro (Welshman) - and, as such, am usually asked "why nursing?" when people find out about my career aspirations.
The truthful answer is: I haven't really a clue. I just want to be able to help someone, to make a difference in just one person's life, be it helping them on the road to recovery or performing one last act of kindness before a person passes.
It's not for the money, it's not for the hard graft, nor the thanks; I wouldn't even know what to say if someone said "Thank you", I'd only be doing my duty. I want to work 12 hour shifts, I want to work public holidays, including Christmas, I want to devote my life to helping others.
