Another Goddamn Vampire Pt. 9
“Get out of the way!” I screeched as I attempted to swerve around him. His hand found my handle bar and he swung himself onto the back of the bike easily, though. I barely kept, the bike straight; but, Spencer didn’t seem to care.
He leaned forward and said into my ear, “This is why I told you to stay with us last night. That man has you in his sights now and he isn’t going to stop until he has you. I offered to protect you; but, no, you just had to run off to that A-class now didn’t you?” Spencer may have seemed calm; but, I could sense a flood of anger surging underneath his words. I kept biking towards the apartment I was going to share with Jessica, Martha, and Lucy in the hopes that Lucy would already be there. Lucy was an impressive martial artist so I figured that she at least could take down this freak. I had no clue what an A-class was either. I just figured that I didn’t want to know.
“Like I was going to let myself be protected by someone who kidnapped me, drugged me, and bruised my arm. Do you know how hard it was to cover that bruise with makeup today? I’m paid to keep myself in perfect condition and you screwed that plan royally so I’m not really inclined to help you out here.” I huffed out over my shoulder. This guy was really getting on my nerves and we hadn’t even been talking for 5 minutes.
“I hope you know that you didn’t slow him down much. He’ll be on your trail again by nightfall, maybe tomorrow night if you are lucky. I doubt it though. All you really did was piss him off.”
My mouth hung open. “You do know that I broke his nose and most of his fingers and then dislocated the bones around the wrist at the very least. He isn’t going to be moving much of anywhere for a while. He was hurting pretty damn badly.”
“Yeah, that isn’t going to slow him down. I’m honestly surprised he let you get this far. Though, you are safer with me now.” Spencer said with an air of disdain.
“About that… Unless you get off and leave me alone, I am going to call the cops while Lucy beats the hell out of you and you’ll end up in jail buddy.” I rounded the corner to the apartment and saw Lucy’s car already sitting in her parking spot. She was perched carefully on top of her car looking at her nails. “See?!” I crowed triumphantly. As I got close I slammed on the brakes and Spencer flew off over my head only to land in a heap right in front of Lucy. I soon hopped off the bike and hooked it up. When I returned, Lucy had a hold on Spencer and was interrogating him quietly.
He looked very uncomfortable and a lot like a little kid that was being chastised. It was rather funny to be completely honest. I walked over and stood a couple feet behind Lucy and cleared my throat. She spun around with Spencer till in her grasp and smiled at me.
“Good! You’re back! How are you? I am glad you brought this trash over so that I could teach it where it belonged. It said that you were in a tussle. Are you okay? Did you hurt anything? Do I need to go kick someone else’s ass for you?” Lucy said and dropped Spencer to the ground. He stayed there and just looked up at both of us.
“Well, he seems to think that the guy that I beat the crap out of won’t be slowed down at all; but, I dealt him some pretty serious damage. I’m fine. Nothing a little makeup won’t hide. I’ll have a bruise or two. That’s it though.” I said with a shrug. Lucy looked at me unconvinced.
“I’m sure that he learned his lesson. I bet the police came and picked him up so you have nothing to worry about.” Spencer grunted in what seemed like disagreement; but, Lucy silenced him with a kick. “You should go drop your bag inside and grab your apartment keys so we can finish moving you out. I doubt it will take long if there are two of us working! I’ll wait out here, okay?” Lucy said and shooed me towards the apartments. I stopped after I was out of sight and listened to anything she might say to Spencer.
I also looked around the corner, careful to stay out of sight as Lucy rounded on him. “I told you to keep your ignorant mouth shut. She doesn’t know anything about any of this. I thought that I had warned everyone in this region to stay away from her. I guess this is what happens when a B-class thinks that he owns the place since I so graciously let him stay in my jurisdiction. I’m keeping her innocent of all of this on purpose, I hope you know. This is nothing that she needs to get involved in. I want to keep her hands free from all of this at least since she is under my protection. This is all your fault. Be more careful next time, or you’ll lose more than just your pride and standing here. I expect you to hunt that rouge down and get him taken care of tonight. Get that old lady and shut-in to help you out this time since this rouge is obviously too much for you to handle. I don’t have time to deal with it.” Lucy said just loud enough for me to hear.
“I was going to take care of him last night; but, that girl got in the way. I recognized her as your little angel right away. What would you have had me do? Leave her there for the rouge to have?” Spencer spat out and glared up at Lucy.
“I would have had you kill him before you ran into her. Now she is going to have questions that I will have to smooth over. Do you know how much I hate cleaning up her memories? The last time I had to do it was such a pain.” Lucy pursed her lips. She sighed. “Just get out of my sight before I kill you. You are lucky that she is going to be back soon.” I had forgotten all about going upstairs and getting my things; but, I didn’t have a key yet so I couldn’t get in anyways. I walked back out to Lucy as Spencer was getting up.
“Hey, you haven’t given me a key yet and I didn’t think about it until I had gone up the stairs and everything.” I smiled sheepishly. I might as well keep what I knew about that conversation to myself for now. I was curious to know about her erasing my memories before and irritated that she seemed to have kept a giant secret from me. We were best friends weren’t we? Lucy handed me the key with an apology and we both watched as Spencer walked off. “So he won’t bother me again then?” I asked.
“He shouldn’t. I gave him a piece of his own medicine. Some men are just too stupid for their own good. This is why…” Lucy started in on me as we turned and walked up the stairs.
“I know, I know. Matthew would be such a good match for me since he isn’t like other men. He is the perfect younger brother. If even only by a couple minutes. Matthew and Lucy were twins, though they look nothing alike. While Lucy is blonde and brown-eyed, Matthew has dark black hair and ice blue eyes.
“If you can quote me like that then why don’t you give it a shot? You have heard it enough times to at least want me to shut up about it.” Lucy said with a roll of her eyes.
“Yes; but, if I said yes, then we would be more than just dating. You would already have us engaged and then married in a month so that I could no longer do what I wanted.” I sighed as she opened the door.
“Is that such a bad thing? You could run a modeling company instead of modeling for one. Isn’t that why you are going to school? To learn how to run a company?”
“Well… Yes. I do enjoy modeling though. It isn’t bad. I get to look pretty and I don’t have to worry about money as much.” I set my bags down in my room and rummaged around for my keys to both my apartment and my car. I gave Felix his customary hug and then Lucy and I walked out of the apartment after she locked the door.
“I still don’t see why you worry about money. The attorney is getting you some money. Daddy said that he got a call from the attorney today and he is one the verge of getting you at least half of that remaining fortune. It is just good that your brother is younger than you and cannot get at all of the money yet…” Lucy trailed off as we walked back down the stairs and she stayed mercifully silent for the entire ride over to my apartment until we got up the step and to my door.
