hiya, same kid from ages ago who went on holiday to canada and developed a thing for a guy? just to clarify: he actually lives in canada with his parents and sisters who i'm even closer with :-))) since, i've talked to some other guys but i still feel this way for him? i talked to his sisters and they say i should be chill and not stress because i have over a year to wait until i can see him/them again? (it sucks but there may be the opportunity to study at the uni he's going to)

hey i've just got back from canada where my family stayed two weeks with a family we know - their son is 17 and we've gotten closer this trip due to an interest in science as well as considerable flirting. the last two nights i talked to him in his room until 3:30am and both times he ended up cuddling up rEALLY close to me however since coming back home he's been really blunt with replies. i asked him how he feels about me and he said youre a good friend. i'm now so confused, what do you think??

boys are the fucking worst maybe he was just a fuckboy and if so ditch him you dont need a fuckboy in your life. but like he sounds really nice?? maybe it was just the close proximity for an extended amount of time that sort of formed this bond and once that proximity is gone it sort of just doesnt work anymore. good luck with that though let us know how it turns out!!

I ended up with 40 points overall! (a bit lower than my predicted boo :c) I didn’t put my marks in my updates tab, but they’re the little ribbon things on the top right of my blog page :)

i was kinda stalking back and @sheloves3angels asked what you can do with HL Maths, Chem & Phys - physics, astrophysics, earth science, chemistry, maths, engineering, natural science, environmental science, meteorology, computer science, more unusual courses like architecture, etc, even some medicine/bio-based courses can be taken without Bio, as long as you have 2 other sciences :) the list goes on

hello!! i did have a choice when it came to doing ib or not, but for me it was quite an obvious one. i could talk about this for ages but i’ll give you a quick answer and then a longer, more in-depth one  ヘ( ◠ ω ◠ ヘ)

short answer: why i chose ib:because it’s flexiblebecause it’s internationalbecause it’s a challenge

my subjects:HL: physics, economics, artSL: swedish a lang. and lit., english a lit., maths(also listed on my about page and nav page)

long answer: i live in sweden and the swedish system is kind of shitty when it comes to year 10-12. it works out well for a lot of people but it’s not a lot of fun if you have an interest in various things rather than just one. personally, i like maths, art, literature and i prefer physics over the other sciences, which is quite a mix.

now, what’s “special” in sweden is that we have pre-set courses/programmes that you pick & study for three years. with my interest these were the top three programs fit for me:

the natural sciences programme= a lot of maths and all three sciences (bio, chem & physics). no art and little focus on language.

the art programme= a lot of art, but very little maths and science. science would also be taught as a general subject.

the “technical” programme= could be compared to an engineering programme. quite a lot of maths & design orientated subjects but not a lot of language studies. probably the best “fit”.

in ib however, i can rearrange my subjects to something that fits me and that i will enjoy studying. i get to do maths on a higher level than most swedish programmes, a science that i enjoy (rather than all three), art, and language with more focus on literature.

the international standard also means that it’s a working system that is recognised worldwide, and they know pretty well what they are doing (and the grading system is way better than the swedish one..). this also means that i later can apply to universities all over the world, which is something i’d have to work extra for with swedish grades. i want to study abroad after my ib so this was ideal.

and lastly, it’s a challenge!! i’ve had quite an easy time in school, it was only in my last year before choosing ib (year 9) that i felt like i was learning anything and i loved that feeling! ib felt like the only choice i had if i wanted to learn anything academic that i could also enjoy. it felt like the obvious next step in life for me!

hi, i'm planning on taking physics, maths & chemistry next school year for my IB HL subjects - will this be too difficult and should I risk it considering how difficult this years exam was apparently?

My HLs were maths, physics, computer science, and ITGS. I’ve not done chemistry but I have a number of friends who did both physics and chemistry, most of whom agree that physics is the more strenuous of the two.

Walking out of this year’s physics exam, I regretted not taking SL when I could easily make the switch since I already had another 3 HLs. That’s a bold statement considering physics was one of the 2 classes I enjoyed most over the 2 years (and indeed, entertainment is why I did physics at all; I’m not pursuing it as a career later on.)

That said, the IB is aware of the difficulty of this year’s physics paper. They acknowledged it in a not-so-reassuring Twitter post. I doubt they would make the same mistake of screwing up the next cohort; I already know of honestly capable prospective physics majors who have lost or are at risk of losing their university placements.

It’s safe to start taking HL physics since you can always drop to SL until November of your 2nd year (May if in the southern hemisphere.) Get a feel for it, and then as an extra precaution, assess how confident you would be in an exam that fluctuates so drastically in difficulty, and one that relies on knowledge outside of what has been stated in the syllabus (for a frame of reference compare the specimen paper to the May 16 paper), keeping in mind that all of your subject exams will occur over a busy 3 week period, and be realistic about it. As stated, I highly doubt they would write a paper as difficult as ours again, but at the same time it’s still a gamble. It definitely helps to know that it’s a possibility though. Aside from the difficulty, the shock played a part in my poor performance.
