I feel bad for Glinda because she was going to marry Fiyero and it had to hurt a lot for him to leave her for but she had so many opportunities to join them so I don't feel so bad
Why is saying that Fiyero sacrificing his life for Elphaba means nothing because he doesn’t care about it so normal…? I keep seeing people say he doesn’t value his own life and he’s lowkey right so his sacrifice doesn’t have any worth…
Guys! I’m making this post quickly because I had somewhere to be. But I’ll probably make a longer post about it tomorrow. The thing I hate about people undermining ALAYM, and saying she’s lying to herself or other stuff like that, is because this song is so much more than that. It’s the same reason people say her feelings for Fiyero are crucial to the story. Because it’s the first time she truly takes time to think and act on what she wants. Jon Chu said it every time he talked about the song. Her saying her lines at the beginning is important to her and the audience, because it’s when she declares what she actually wants. It’s not her letting someone else decide for her, or following someone else. She is saying what she really wants. And when they actually start interacting, Fiyero lets her take the lead, she guides them through the place. She levitates them. It’s her finding herself and what she wants and acting on it. Not caring about other people or the consequences. The song is a love song, but it’s mainly about Elphaba. It’s for her to find herself in a way she hasn’t been able to before. This is one of the only times Elphaba is unapologetically herself, and taking that away and making it some sort of miserable moment, takes away from Elphaba as a person. As long as you’re mine in the movie is more about Elphaba finding herself rather than unnecessary Fiyero scenes. Him being there, her attraction for him, and her acting on it, is only a result of her truly understanding herself and her wants first. That’s why the song and their relationship is so important.
I got to stop yapping about this song, the post turned out longer than I thought… 🤦🏽♀️
TW- Sexual Assault, descriptions of torture/SA aftermath, and suicidal thoughts.
None of this situation is meant to be seen as glorification of the subject.
No seriously, this one’s very heavy. So proceed with caution.
Their conversation isn’t done btw. That’s just the end of the chapter.
Totally forgot to add this originally. But @toss-a-coin-to-your-stan-account’s comment on the last chapter gave me the confidence to write this one. I just wanted to say this to highlight how giving feedback on someone’s writing can go a long way. ❤️
Elphaba groggily opened her eyes and turned to find Fiyero in the same place as he was last night. Except he had curled into an even smaller ball. Given how tall he was, it was strange to see how tiny he could make himself become. Knowing his current situation, and that he couldn’t move that much, she inched over to him and wrapped an arm around his waist. Fiyero jerked wildly trying to pull himself away, but she supposed the sudden movement had aggravated his leg injury, causes a scream to escape his lips. In a moment of fear, her grip around him tightened, which caused his movements to become much more violent. His words were a helpless mix of Please’s and Elphaba’s. Until she realized that he wasn’t trying to address her, he was calling her. In a fit of desperation and that he thought she was someone else. As she realized she was what was scaring him, she pulled her arm away, moving as far away from him as she could on the bed. His actions slowly calmed and he became somewhat relaxed, but his chest was left heaving with such relief that it made her stomach churn.
This state, this form, it had all been a result of the soldiers that had took him. So avoiding all sense of touch was probably normal. She climbed off the bed and assumed her new position in a nearby armchair of her own creation. Perhaps she could think about something else. Something to take her mind off of the pressing issue at hand. She tried thinking of her little sister, the way they used to play together when they were little. That almost always brought a smile to her face. But the memories were ruined by an image of a house crashing down, the wood erupting in all directions. Elphaba fell slightly back in her chair from shock, and quickly wiped the tear threatening to fall from her eyes. She tried to think of anything else, but she couldn’t, not when she had messed everything up with everyone. And she thought it would be okay because she had Fiyero, but now that was gone too. Just then, Fiyero groaned. A helpless noise as he attempted to turn over, towards her direction. Soon enough, he managed to, and his eyelids fluttered open. She took a good look at him again, how had she managed to do this, turn him back. She stared at his messy hair, that still looked so perfect, his long eyelashes, everything about him still looked so beau-, her thought process stopped in its tracks as it fell to the messy bit of red around his throat, she thought she could make out a hand, but it was muddled by the presence of others. Typical, there was more than one person who had taken him. But nevertheless, she hated looking at it. She turned her gaze back onto his face, but this time an expression of horror had been spread across his face. Elphaba immediately rose from the chair and to his side.
“What’s wrong?” She gently pushed, raising a hand and gently raking it through his hair. His head automatically moved towards her touch, causing the slightest smile to take hold of her in this moment of chaos.
“Nothing… I just, remembered… something.” He replied. He looked directly at her this time, smiling at her, with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“You know you can tell me anything, right?” Elphaba furthered the small conversation. This time, he gave her the slightest nod, and closed his eyes, but not out of fear, out of shame and embarrassment, things she had no way of understanding why he felt that way around her. In a desperate attempt to comfort him. She wrapped her arms around him again, pulling him close. His body tensed up completely for a moment, then he relaxed, replacing the stillness with a shiver that shook his whole body, Elphaba was about to pull away, before he relaxed against her. He raised his arms to get closer to her, burying his head in the crook of her neck. Elphaba lifted her hand back to his head to card through his hair, only to completely stop all movement as she felt a tear hit her skin. She didn’t know how to deal with this, but Oz, did she want to. He had no one else to go to, they were alone, together. She begged her mind to aid her. To even give a chance of understanding what he had went through. Countless nights, he had stayed awake with her, kissing her forehead and telling her that Nessa’s death wasn’t her fault and that her hatred for the Wizard and Madame Morrible were completely valid. So what was she supposed to do. Push him away because it made her feel uncomfortable and tell him to deal with it. What had happened? The bruises, the handprints, the aversion to touch. Just then, it hit her. The true brunt of their brutality against him. She pulled away from him abruptly, leaving him to look up at her with red eyes that continued to water.
“Fiyero, I’m not going to push you. But when you’re ready, will you tell me what’s going on?” She spoke, her voice trying to sound as comforting as possible.
He nodded before taking a sharp breath, and when he exhaled, he crumpled in front of her.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, I thought distracting them from you, keeping them from not pointing their guns at you would keep you safe, but I didn’t think about how much I would worry you. I just wanted you to be okay!” He ranted. Elphaba’s eyes blew open. What was he talking about? But before she could reply to the first part, he continued.
“And I’m sorry for not telling you everything they did. I just, I didn’t want to make it worse for you. You were so happy that I was okay, that I couldn’t tell you I wasn’t! And I didn’t know how you’d take it. I know I’m stupid, of course you wouldn’t say anything, but I don’t even know what to think of it. ” Fiyero continued. Elphaba still didn’t know how to reply to any of this.
“And it’s not like it’s new. Things like this have happened before. But whenever I try to tell people. They just… I don’t know. They tell me that I should be glad that people like me, that some people just practice tough love, that my beauty is just too much to handle, and that I probably enjoyed it. They always tell me that a prince like me, probably loves to get around, but I just- I don’t-, I wanted someone to love me and to care but I- I didn’t try, and I rush myself into situations- but you- you- listened and- and cared.”
“Okay.” Elphaba inserted in between his sentences to show she was paying attention.
“But this time, I didn’t get it. Before people would tell me that- that they did it because they liked me too much, but these people. They- they hated me. So why- why is it still all that matters- for once, -I just want it to be different-” He rambled.
“And I should expect it by now. But I don’t want to judge anybody unfairly. And every time it does happen, it- it…” He closed his eyes again and dropped his head dejectedly. “It feels… good. Like, it hurts but… my body, responds to it… and I know I don’t want it. And I would never want something like that to happen to anybody, ever. But how-how do I say that to someone, how do I tell them that- that I liked it- but I didn’t like it, and I- wanted to die, I wanted to smash my head against those poles, but they were holding me- and- if there was the slightest chance I could stay alive for you, I would- but I-.” He cut off. “I’m sorry.” This time, his voice was so small she had to strain to hear him. “I tried so hard to be good enough for you. But I’m not…”
Elphaba could feel her heart rip in her own chest. But yet again, her words failed her. What could she say. What could be said to take even an ounce of that pain away from him. She hated this. She hated everyone that had hurt him and herself. He called himself not good enough for her, what had she done to make him believe that. Had she contributed to his thoughts in a way. I mean, when he had first left everything to come with her, was that not the first place her mind had strayed. When he had sang to her of his love and his affection, what had she done. Even now, had she not sat back in her chair and stared at his face? Maybe she didn’t make it clear enough that it wasn’t just lust that she felt for him. But enough about her. He was hurting, and Elphaba knew there was nothing she knew how to say to make him feel any better.
The movie says that the monkeys are the ones taking the animals that speak up, to the Wizard. But why? In the books, there is a hat that controls them, but in the movie? Can’t they just fly away. What’s stopping them from just leaving? Even if they were promised revenge on Elphaba, I hardly think they thought capturing animals was worth it? Did I miss some sort of implication????
(Guys I’m so sorry, I keep coming up with new ideas. Don’t worry I will finish all of them. 😭)
I wrote this because I think Elphaba would blame herself for what happened after they go to the badlands, but Fiyero and her eventually get through it together.
TW- SA mention, sexual assault mention, graphic descriptions of violence/SA aftermath.
Elphaba gazed across their makeshift loft in their new home. Far away from anything they had ever known before. Her eyes fell on the bed in the corner of the room and the man lying down on it. His golden skin’s rough texture was accentuated by the sunlight seeping through the holes in the hut. He really was beautiful, but the longer she spent with him, the further she pushed herself away. She hoped Fiyero didn’t notice, because he would probably think it was his fault. And the truth was, it was hers. It was always hers. The reason he was like this. She didn’t have an issue with the way he looked, but he was so vulnerable and delicate. And Elphaba spent every day making sure he stayed together. And she didn’t care. Taking care of him never felt like a burden to her. But what if he hated it. What if turning him into this was never her choice to make?
People kept telling her how powerful she was, maybe she could just turn him back. But she knew how magic worked. There would be some consequence, but she didn’t care.
Tears started pouring out of her eyes, and a bright light burst through the room.
————————————————————————
Fiyero started to thrash, gripping the sheets as the burlap peeled back revealing skin. And after a grueling 5 minutes the spell had done its work.
Elphaba stared at Fiyero again, satisfaction weighing at her heart. The uniform he wore was tattered and hung off his shoulder on one side revealing indents made from fingernails and a bite mark. Elphaba winced. What did that even mean? She wasn’t even sure she wanted to know. Oddly enough, despite the thrashing, Fiyero hadn’t woken from his sleep yet. His jacket was open, and his shirt and pants were distressed. They definitely couldn’t not have felt comfortable on the skin. She moved to take a step towards him. But his eyes started to groggily open. When he did, he frowned and reached down to grip at his legs while wincing, before his gaze narrowed at his hand, which was made of skin and flesh now. Instinctively, he jumped out of bed towards the mirror but immediately fell down while letting out a desperate scream. Elphaba ran towards him, helping him up as he leaned all his weight onto her. She gently sat him back on the bed.
“What happened?” He asked, gesturing to himself. “Why-?” Elphaba cut him off.
“It was me. I thought-, I thought you’d want this form of you back.” Fiyero started shaking his head, before stopping himself, as tears started streaming down his face.
“Elphaba, I don’t want to be like this.” Elphaba’s face dulled. Her magic had turned him back in a moment of adrenaline and emotion. She didn’t know how to turn him back.
“Fiyero, I can’t.” She replied, resigned. A small frown splayed across his face that broke Elphaba’s heart a little. But she forced her tears not to come out. Instead her face showed a feeling of deep despair.
“It’s okay.” He replied. “Don’t be sad, it’s not your fault.” He coaxed, pulling her in for a hug. She buried her face in his chest, but pulled away as soon as she heard his breath hitch.
“Fiyero, are you okay?” She questioned. There was conviction in her voice. She had to know. Fiyero nodded enthusiastically, but there was no light behind his eyes.
“Can you help me towards the bath? I feel dirty.” Elphaba thought it was a strange way to phrase the request, but she looped his arm under his shoulders and guided him towards the bathtub.
She waited outside, afraid he would get hurt again while in there. Why did she do that? Why couldn’t she have just let things be the way they were? Why did she have to ruin everything? Just as she finished she heard Fiyero call for her from the bath. But this time, his voice was small, like he didn’t really want her to come towards him. Great. She had scared him away too. As she entered the small room. The blood drained from her face. Bruises were littered across his entire body, but especially around his waist, and then they got more concentrated over his hips, and then again on his thighs. Elphaba took a sharp inhale, and tried to meet his eyes, but he avoided her. She helped him up, and used whatever she remembered from her sorcery seminar to make a new outfit. It was a simple long sleeved green shirt with plain black pants. It was something she never saw Fiyero wear. But it looked good on him, everything did. She stayed close to him all the way back to where they laid. She wanted to ask him about what she saw. But the way he pulled himself away as soon as she got him back to the bed killed the words in her throat. She had messed up whatever was between them, like she always did.
