Truth for King Widower: have you ever had feelings for the other parents of your children?

“Oh, a few times I suppose.” He admitted, all six eyes drooping a bit as he remembered the handful of people who had gotten a bit too close. “Unfortunately they didn’t last. They never do. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never be able to have a proper relationship; no one has quite the lifespan I do, you see. It just made more sense to kill them off quickly before any deep connection could be formed, otherwise they would die from old age and it would hurt that much worse.” He told himself he was fine, that he was happy this way; he had his thousands of children to keep him company after all, but he knew he was lying to himself.

King Widower, how do you remember which of your thousands of children are which?

“Oh, quite easily! They are my children after all.” The spider king couldn’t possibly look more proud, always happy to talk about his thousands of perfect offspring. He loved them more than life itself. “Each one has a very unique scent and aura. I can sense them, more or less, plus it would make me a horrible parent if I didn’t know each of my beautiful babies as individuals!” He couldn’t even dream of not recognizing one of his own, no matter how many he had. “Plus each clutch has a different parent, giving them unique traits aside from my own genes. This makes for some very interesting hybrids as you can probably imagine.”
