I 1. what is their sexuality?

This detective is gayer than his extensive assortment of rainbow-coloured leather jackets and I for one think that’s beautiful. 

I 2. have they ever questioned their sexuality?

Well — there are some things to be said for spending your childhood and teenage years in an underground facility, completely isolated from the outside world. One of those things is that Dirk never had any reason to think twice about his most urgent need to dream up an imaginary best friend slash boyfriend to get him through the darker days. ( In fact, once Dirk escaped Blackwing, it took him some time to fully realise that heterosexuality was indeed a thing that actually existed. Needless to say, his mind quaked with shock. ) 

Though he did kiss a girl on the lips once for the sheer sake of trying it, he soon discovered that it wasn’t his cuppa at all and decided instead to immerse her in a meaningful conversation about dogs. Dirk’s sexual experiences are limited and his romantic ones all but non-existent, but he knows precisely what he wants. He’s just at a tragic loss as to how he’s supposed to get it, what with his inability to keep anything nice in his life for any longer than five minutes before it gets suffocated by the stream of weirdness that follows him.

I 3. have they ever questioned their gender?

Dirk and gender is a vastly interesting concept to explore. He’s certainly very gender-nonconforming - the natural thing to do for someone who doesn’t hold true to most social conventions. Dirk’s sheltered upbringing means that he simply enjoys the things that fill him with delight, regardless of whether or not Western society might perceive them as manly. Good luck trying to explain to him that he is expected not to cry or wear at least a few tiny splashes of make up here and there, that friendship bracelets are to be made exclusively by little girls, that the colour pink is for some unfathomable reason taboo to him, that he oughtn’t giggle and bounce and flap his hands, that he should most definitely wear drab-smelling cologne rather than the sweetshop-like scents he favours. He obstinately refuses to understand any of it. 

I 4. would/was their family be okay with them being LGBT?

Dirk’s family is a family of choice wherein the overwhelming majority is some variation of very-muchly-not-straight. They’re all aware - he doesn’t for a single second try to hide it, nor comprehend why he should -, and they support him fully. 

I 5. how long would/did it take for them to come out?

The moment Dirk came out into the world, he came out to it as a flamboyantly and very joyfully gay man. The world wasn’t in the least surprised. 

Speaking on an individual level, though, if Dirk were to somehow manage to befriend a person who wouldn’t, despite his mannerisms and ceaseless fawning over Todd cute men immediately realise that he wasn’t straight, he wouldn’t particularly mind. He’d simply drop the fact in a casual conversation at some point and then be happy to hop on to another topic at the same lightning speed that characterises all of his blabbering.

        “Ka..ni...?” He’s the first thing Tony sees, just like he thought he’d be the last thing he’d see. Out there on the battlefield, laying down and dying as Makani spoke kind words to him. He can’t remember much, head swimming and covered in fog. But...he is aware enough to know the love of his life when he sees him. 

        “Where...” He tries to sit up, but can’t find the strength to do so. He wants to use his hand to push himself up but...nothing’s happening. He can’t feel anything in that arm. Alarmed, he looks down, realizing his right arm just isn’t there. His breath becomes quick and he looks back at Makani, eyes ( no, just eye, his right eye is covered with something! ) wide as he looks at him in fear. “What happened?” He asks, voice scratchy and worn way, way too slow.

yeah!! I’m actually in 2 campaigns right now, the one last night we’re playing curse of strahd and my character is a high elf wizard named Halaria. she lowkey thinks she’s better than everyone else so she’s. a little manipulative oops

and the other we’re doing dragon heist and i’m playing Sterling the tiefling rogue! I don’t know the people in that group as well though so I’m more shy about rping her ahaaa. 

do you play at all? i love hearing other people’s dnd stories!
