Wilber Pan X Good Life Plagiarism Controversy
Earlier today, news articles published accusations of famous Taiwanese singer Wilber Pan and his potential plagiarism of Good Life's creative material. The singer released his new album "illi" yesterday, and Highlight fans were disappointed to recognize some very familiar tunes. Under particular scrutiny right now is the song "失眠 (Insomnia)," which bears a strong similarity to both "Caffeine" and a track that Good Life was seen working on in BEAST's 2014 variety show, "SHOWTIME: Burning the Beast" (and later given to BtoB as "한모급 (One Sip)" for their sixth EP).
Around Us Entertainment has confirmed their awareness of the controversy and are currently reviewing the issue. They are also considering the matter of publishing rights of the original music with Music Cube. Read a translated version of their official notice by @MrsDooB2uty below (original tweet here):
Around Us: The rights of the aforementioned track is with Music Cube, so we will liaise with them on the matter. There are two resolutions at hand. Either we make a formal request to Taiwan for the removal of the track or make a formal request for copyright fees for the usage of the song. Because this is a foreign matter, the process could be more complex and may be more time-consuming. Currently, we will do our own assessment if any plagiarism was involved and decide on the outcome thereafter. Cube: The publishing rights of Yong Junhyung's track is not with Cube Entertainment, but with Music Cube. It is a different company from us. Therefore, it has nothing to do with Cube Entertainment but a matter between Yong Junhyung and Music Cube who has the publishing rights.
Fans have compiled their own "evidence" to allow people to form their own opinion. We hope that this legal issue is resolved efficiently and quickly.
