STA Travel - #WildCardUK Part 6 – MANCHESTER
Thanks for tuning into my sixth blog in my whirlwind #WildCardUK series, all taken care of and organized by the travel experts at STA Travel Australia and Visit Britain.
In this particular video (full version can be found HERE), I head to Manchester for what was perhaps my second favourite stop of the trip.
Whilst I really enjoyed getting my hands dirty and doing the kind of ‘off road’ stuff I wouldn’t normally book on a travel trip of my own- I’m not going to pretend that the girly days of shopping and high tea’s weren’t the activities that got me most excited.
SO, to find out I’d be playing ‘W.A.G’ (aka. wives and girlfriends of football players) for a day in Manchester realllly got me excited.
To see what I got up to as a lady of leisure, read below!
Old Trafford: I started off my day in Manchester or ‘Manc’ as it’s referred to by the locals by heading to Old Trafford for the first game of the soccer season. This trip was totally wasted on me. Whilst my brothers are both HUGE soccer nuts (Scott, Liverpool- Tom, Chelsea) I have never been a fan of the game however the vibe outside the stadium was pretty contagious. I wasn’t hanging around for the game but instead meeting up with Astronautalis aka. Andy for the first time, face to face. It wasn’t long till I spotted another tourist being followed by a camera crew. After a quick hug and a catch up, we went out separate ways with plans to meet back up later that arvo.
Nicky Oliver Hairdressers: first stop in Manchester as a ‘W.A.G’ was to get my hair done. THIS was something I was experienced in. The girls at the award winning salon were super lovely and I walked out feeling a million dollars.
Trof: in terms of where to eat in Manchester, you will be spoilt for choice if you head to the Northern Quarter. I ate here quite a few times during our trip and was not disappointed. Trof, Almost Famous Burgers and Dough were three of my favourite places. Trof do a mean big breakfast.
Shopping: after lunch, the girls from Our Wild Abandon and I checked out what Manchester had to offer in terms of shopping. They have all the high street stores (Topshop, Urban Outfitters etc) as well as some awesome little boutique stores (some sick guys ones with a skater vibe) and quite a few cute little vintage stores. Definitely put aside a day for shopping!
Cloud 23: if you Google ‘Things To Do In Manchester’ chances are, Cloud 23 at the Hilton will pop up. And for good reason. It wouldn’t be a day in the life of a WAG if there wasn’t miniature treats and champagne involved. Cloud 23 offered delicious high tea ranging from simply scones and tea to an extravagant affair you needed to book in advance to receive. Whilst the food (and the service!) were impressive, it was the 360 degree sweeping views of Manchester that really won me over. We ended up staying long after our tea had gone cold, mesmerized by the cityscape below us. A ‘must see’!
Nightlife: although it’s not mentioned in the video (and for good reason!) the crew and I had quite a fun night on the town in Manchester and I though tit was worth mentioning some places that are good to grab a drink! The Blue Pig, Walrus, Cane & Grain was especially cool. If you want something a little swankier, head to Spinningfields.

STA Travel - #WildCardUK Part 5 – THE LAKES DISTRICT
Hello and welcome to the fifth blog of my whirlwind #WildCardUK series, thanks to the legends at STA Travel Australia and Visit Britain.
In this video (full version can be found HERE), we take on the Lakes District, checking out some of the most tranquil and stunning spots of the popular holiday destination just south (and across the jump) of Edinburgh.
For all the in’s and out’s and details of the video- read below!
- Mountain Goat Tours: our first port of call was with Tony and the Mountain Goat Tours. Tony was super lovely and very informed about all ten of the lakes that were part of the ‘Ten Lakes Spectacular’ tour. He was especially patient with our a billion Beatrix Potter questions (her family home where she wrote a few of her books is in Lancashire in the Lake District). I grew up with Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck and wanted to know all the hot goss about my favourite childhood author. The best thing about the tour was the flexibility- based on what we wanted to see and what interested us, Tony was able to divert from the usual route and take us on special little trips. My favourite two were to this ginormous waterfall, Aira Force in Penrith, Cumbria (it was so magical, I felt like I was in a scene from Ferngully the movie) and a mini Stone Henge (Castlerigg Stone Circle, Keswick, Cumbria) where I even got an ice-cream cone and pretended like it was a touch warmer than it was.
- The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop: another unplanned stop, we were driving along when I saw a huge crowd of people gathering around the quaintest little cottage on the side of the road. This was particularly bizarre as we hadn’t seen another living soul on the journey so far. Tony was more than happy to pull over as the crew tumbled out of the bus in search for even more sweet snacks. This little shop was the real deal- the staff were even dressed in olden day clothes- and the gingerbread was unreal- Jamie Oliver said it was the “best I’ve eaten” and if it’s good enough for Mr Lovely Jubbly…
- Windermere Hydro Hotel: not featured in the STA video but definitely worth a mention is the hotel we stayed at in the Lakes District. Something straight out of Faulty Towers, it was full of character (and characterS), ginormous chandeliers, lots of secret stairwells and one creepy (but kinda cool) games room worth checking out at night time. With a torch. And some balls.

LIVERPOOL = BEATLES BEATLERS = LIVERPOOL Check the full #WildCardUK video of my day in the Beatles home town, meeting locals, learning slang, and pulling birds (yikes!) with @statravelus and #VisitBritain! CLICK THE LINK IN MY BIO FOR THE FULL VIDEO!
New #WildCardUK video is up and live! This time @statravelus had me on a road trip to Liverpool, for all Beatles errrrythang! AS ALWAYS, LINK IS IN MY BIO! #Beatlemania #VisitBritain #Innit
There is not a lot in this world that i would say i am scared of, but jumping off of high things is TOTALLY at the top of that list. When @statravelus told me that a major part of my day coasteering in Wales would involve me jumping off of cliffs...needless to say, i had a lump in my throat the size of a basketball. Sometimes, you just gotta say, "fuck it!" and go for it. I was damned scared before the first jump, and by the end of the day, i couldn't jump enough. Still scares the crap out of me, but now it excites the hell out of me too! So glad i got to try that out, and push myself out of my comfort zone. The next episode of my #WildCardUK adventure is up! Easily, my favorite day of the trip, i went "coasteering" off St. Non's Point! Thanks again to @statravelus and #VisitBritain for throwing me into the ocean! Changed my life! CLICK THE LINK IN MY BIO TO WATCH THE WHOLE EPISODE!
