Six, 2016 (unfinished)
This one needs a little explaination, because it’s where everything started. So this will also be an introductory post for the time being.
Originally I wanted to make an alternative artwork for the album Six by Wildildlife. I spontaneously assign colors to sounds, so I thought about making a chromatic tracklist, where songs are blocks of distinguished colors, proportional to the songs lenght. The result would have been a long horizontal piece to fill the inside panels of a vinyl edition — with the same cover.
I still made traditional collages at the time, with paper, scissors and glue. Soon I realized this project was impossible to pull off in that way. I wasn’t sampling a subject or a background anymore, but just form and color. I didn’t have the source material, and it was difficult to work with tiny paper stripes.
So like, 7 years later, I tried the digital approach. The process was still long, but possible, and the technique revealed itself to be much more interesting than I thought. Soon I had the itch to apply it to other subjects, and to experiment with different contexts.
So I stopped before facing the 18-minute Magic Jordan, and I don’t think I’ll be finishing this piece unless Wildildlife themselves ask me to do it — something that’s not going to happen anytime soon. So I’m posting it anyway.
I’m not a full-time artist, and as things stand now, I don’t intend to be. So I’ll be posting very slowly. But HEY, I figured it would be much better for those collages to go out in the open, rather then putrefying in my hard drive.
