Ridiculous painting of the day: A Street Scene in the Dog Days (En gadescene i hundedagene) by Wilhelm Marstrand from 1832
A dogcatcher is trying to catch a street dog who’s hiding behind a dog trainer but the trainer thinks he’s trying to catch his dogs and is about to defend them by whipping the catcher with a bamboo stick. In the background you can see several people swooping their dogs up to protect them from the commotion and a couple in the window is calling out to their cat who is getting way too close. All the children seem to be trying to stop the catcher by whistling and calling for the dog and trying to lure it back with food or water, suggesting it has probably been unofficially adopted by them. It’s very unlikely the catcher will be successful.
I love all the different facial expressions from amusement, worry, annoyance and anger to “this fucking shit again”
