My Will Blair thoughts:
His infraction was actually incredibly minor. He probably could have gotten off as a Necessary, but it's my hc that children of those in power are held to higher standards and therefore their infractions are treated more seriously. (Said hc extends to Carina and Samheed as well. I think Carina, like Alex, found out very young that she would be Unwanted. Her first infraction was minor, but it was enough to make her immediately Unwanted where her peers would be made Necessary for the same infraction. That scared her at first, but then that turned into anger and rebellion, resulting in more infractions and the defiance she showed during her Purge. As for Samheed, I've always thought his infraction was the most minor of the main cast, especially because he showed so much promise that he presumably would have been not only Wanted but in the Quillitary if not for his infraction. I mean between Alex's numerous infractions, Meghan's singing and dancing, and Lani's presumed storytelling, I don't think bragging is on the same level. I do think it would qualify as an infraction, but again not as serious as the others and that was his first infraction as well.)
He became Unwanted early. Similar to what Lani assumed Gunnar was doing, General Burkesh stopped seeing any sort of value in raising his son after he found out he'd be Unwanted. He swayed Justine to make Will go to his Purge a year or two early.
His infraction was either lying related or him disobeying direct orders. (Lying related because it plays into his acting. I could see him getting away with a few lies but then lying to the wrong person and being caught. Relating back to the first headcanon I think the lie would be very minor, like he's lying to people over things that don't matter just to be believed, to feel that little bit of power and control where he otherwise feels helpless. Disobeying direct orders because his dad was not only in the Quilitary, but a general, so he was likely around the Quilitary a lot and raised like a soldier.)
Elaborating on the last point: I lean towards lying just because of the fact it was Aaron who reported him. Maybe Will lied to a teacher or something or just someone in authority and said person believed the lie, but Aaron saw through it / knew the truth through some proof or something he witnessed? I'm not completely sure, but I think something interesting could be done with this.
Elaborating on the "children of those in power being more likely to he Unwanted over minor infractions" thing: I also think that would make his anger towards Aaron more interesting. Obviously someone reporting you when they KNOW it will get you sent to your death is more than enough reason to be bitter and angry, but I think it would be interesting if Will felt particularly bitter because not only did the lie not really matter in the grand scheme of things but it also wasn't an infraction based off creativity or emotion. Even with his mindset that Unwanted people deserve what they get (paraphrasing/simplifying) I could see him thinking he didn't ACTUALLY do anything wrong or anything to be there and that also feeding into his feeling of not belonging in Artimé and his bitterness toward everyone there. I could go on about this for a while, but I won't ramble too hard.
