Metallica’s Kirk Hammett with Will Carroll and Mark Osegueda of Death Angel.
Will Carroll Death Angel Get well soon
Wednesday, July 18: Death Angel, “Fallen”
The Dream Calls for Blood was as lean and bloodthirsty as the pack of wolves on its cover, representing a creative masterstroke for Death Angel and somehow exceeding most of the (actually somewhat overrated) records that defined the band’s legacy. Perhaps most surprisingly, Mark Osegueda’s vocals had improved dramatically from his earlier records, finally matching the ferocity of Rob Cavestany’s riffing in full. As such, tunes like “Fallen” were absolutely vicious, pummeling without mercy and hitting all of its intended marks. Jason Suecof’s production was a bit sterile and dry, but that actually worked in the song’s favor, since the recording emphasized the tightness of the playing and arrangements. The Dream Calls for Blood was an extremely pleasant late-career surprise, presenting a band that was even hungrier than they were during their supposed peak, and “Fallen” not only exemplified Death Angel’s vitality, but took on any and all comers with power and fury.
