3/14/26.
Honestly, bands like The Gildings (England) get me as excited, if not more, about maintaining this blog than most other bands. The reason? The Gildings were a band that released a beautiful album that doesn't have very many "supporters" - as far as I can tell, this beautiful record barely registered a ripple on Bandcamp when it was released. I imagine that 30-40 years from now, a label like Numero will be touting The Gildings as a band that never found an audience, but should have. In the meantime, I'll have them stored in my music diary - this blog.
"The Twisting Vine" had me at the first song, "Shoots From the Ground". It immediately made me think of R.W. Hedges crossed with Lawrence Arabia. And those two artists comparisons are sure to get me to pay attention. In this case, I listened to this album four times today alone. The Gildings is the work of Edmund Cottam, with help on bass and drums. This came out in 2015 and in the 11 years since hasn't made much noise here on Bandcamp. What a shame. Anyone who likes the work of John Southworth, Will Lawrence, Euros Childs will find a lot to love here. Cottam's voice has a bit of crooner to it as well - but he mostly uses it in a psych folk/folk way rather than with a Maxwell Farrington tone.
This was released by Gilded Recordings.
The funniest reactions to lawrence are "wait you are actually like that?!"
Ghosts of Memory
Adding a bit of lore . . what I can say without spoilers is that both of them are part of a secret "vigilante" group called Evangelys, and they are investigating the cases dismissed by the police as freak accidents, or as "supernatural". The timeline is something that resembles the 1800s, and the city of Elyma (where the story takes place) is riddled with strong remnants of folklore, and fae stories.
So, all the members of Evangelys have a certain kind of super intelligence/genius, which permits them to do what they do. Michael's power ( black haired guy ) is perfect memory, which is also the source of his melancholy. He is burdened by a specific event which shattered his vision that Law is absolute, and just. Hence his expression.
Will is a bit of an anomaly, in the sense that he's a genius in all the senses of the word, but he'll never give his input unless he gains something out of it, otherwise, he'll just laze about, do his own thing. Momentary cure of boredom? A strawberry? A spark of interest ?
The thing here, is that Will somehow reminds Michael of the person whose death he witnessed, despite the fact they are nothing alike, and is the beginning of a bond burdened by grief.

Happy new year ! 🎊
Thank you for all the love and support ! Onward onto a year which will hopefully be filled with love, peace, happiness and success 💕
Will has always been very close to nature, but I get the feeling that the same could be said about Rengoku, in the sense that he seems to be really loved by animals, especially birds 💕
