Ryan Henry: Tattoo Artist drawing Chicago's Future
Although his list of accolades is lengthy, I was honestly more impressed with the reason behind some of his most fired up comments. What you have to understand is that tattoo artists are creators of art, deserving of having their medium acknowledged as “real art.” Without noticing, I’ve always thought of tattoo artists as almost a separate genre – considered separately from painters, sculptors and other traditional artists. It appears Ryan believes, and I’m inclined to agree – An art form like tattooing that built it’s popularity boom on the backs (literally) of the urban community may not be as easily recognized by traditionalists, who may feel threatened.
More young people of all cultures find themselves getting inked with each passing day. Art is art, and more people are accepting the fact that world famous tattoo artists and world famous painters are worthy of the same respect; Ryan is in position to get his in a major way.
